Seeds Needed for CLass Project

Hello, I am a newbie to wintersowing, but have been reading a lot on this forum for the past few months. My math class will be doing a wintersowing project this year, and I desperately need lots of different kinds of seeds. Perennials, annuals and some tomato seeds would be greatly appreciated. I will be having the children measuring, cutting and taping to make the containers and measuring to fill them with 4" of soil. As the containers sprout, we will figure the percentages of seeds sprouting compared to the number of seeds planted. This should be lots of fun, plus a back to nature trip for city children - and plants for everyone. My thanks in advance for anyone willing to share their seeds. You might want to look for and check out several of the generous offers of seeds for postage at The Seed Exchange

Look for posts that say SASE, SASBE, BEAP, NEWBIES. These will be the members who are presently generously offering up some of their excess seeds for postage.

Yes. And I can remember doing them in 2 week vacation bible school, where we put a round (tube like, only very slightly smaller than a glass or jar) of cardboard in a clear glass of water, slipped the bean in between the cardboard and the glass where it was held against the side, submerged. Then could watch the roots form, and the bean sprout and begin to form leaves. I don't remember planting what we grew, but I clearly remember the roots and seed leaves. Don't even ask me how many years later :)

I think of blackberry lily, and candy lily, as having a high germination rate. I've gotten good germination from most traded dianthus seeds, but one zero-germinator, and I don't know why, of course (was it me? The seeds?) Anise Hyssop would definitely do very well. Anyone with a plant will have a gallon of seed to trade. (It's a great plant, but you have to pull a lot of seedlings every year!). The plant will bloom the first year, so that will also please people new to starting from seed. Some dianthus do that, too. You might want to include early-germinating seeds, too. Maybe lettuce, or bachelor buttons. Seeing something sprouting as early as possible helps all of us, I think!

Anyone who wants to send me seeds to see if they will germinate or grow well in indoor conditions let me know. Also taking Unprocessed seedsvor seeds that were thrown on a giant tarl or in a giant seed bag marked, "Will grow, free to someone, Was cold". I'm in California will do indoor and outdoor or sort the seeds as best i can and resend viable seeds to tue project. Or suggest amounts to send per person just looking for more seeds for thwir personal collectiocollection based on how many I am able to germinate Itsjeddmills@yahoo.com.

Thank you all so very much for your donations. I hope my students and I will do well for you all. Thank you!

As far as further donations go, we have received lots of interesting seeds. We still do not have very many food seeds if anyone is still interested in donating.

I can't say thanks enough, so there it is once more:)

Do you still need seed?
I finally got all mine organized and I have: dill,parsley,chives,cumin,sorrel,spinach and some birdhouse gourd seeds. Let me know if you'd like some or all!!
