Good growing, Xuan! I have a couple of seedlings from Maria, too... and they're doing wonderfully! When they arrived, they were pretty tiny, but now that they've had a summer of growth, they're getting fairly large!
You'll love both of those when they flower... they're great varieties!
WOW Xuan! They have grown so big. Ohhhh, it's so nice to see them doing so good in Vietnam. Good job Xuan and thank you so much for taking good care of them. That Supreme Garden hopefully might give you blooms by next spring.
The seedlings and bulblets really like the warmer temp. as they can continously grow. My seperated bulblets and seedlings here are slowing down with their growth because of the cooler weather. Some even went to sleep already.
I have brought in some choice seedlings that are growing under lights now. I WANT to see results/flowers by next spring.
Jodi...Nice to hear that the seedlings I sent you are doing great too. It seems that most seedlings, once they get past their "1st b'day",they become more stronger and robust. They are not too delicate anymore at that age.
I wonder how the seedlings I sent to Cindee are doing. They must like the FL weather.
Xuan...Meet your Supreme Garden's "mommy". {{gwi:413796}}
Of those that you sent me, Orange Sovereign x Orange Sovereign, and a Charisma x Ludwig's Dazzler, are both growing very well! The OS x OS is larger than a golf ball, and the C x LD is not far behind! I've kept them both right on the windowsill, and they get lots of morning sun... once the sun passes over the house, the lights take over, and they've been getting a total of 18 hours of light per 24 hour period.
I feed them the same as I feed everyone else... liquid MiracleGro with a touch of Superthrive, about every other watering. They're planted in 3" clay pots, and the medium is a coco coir mix, using charcoal and perlite, along with a touch of high quality potting soil.
Now that they're getting bigger, it's almost time to re-pot them using my bonsai-like mix, which will ensure quick drainage and healthy roots!
I've also got some seedlings from Cindee, and those are doing well, too! They sit in the same window, and though they're a bit younger and smaller, they are growing very nicely, responding to the care I give them. Two are Lemon & Lime x Lemon & Lime, and there are three other babies, San Remo crosses and Candy Floss crosses, I believe.
And then there are the seedlings I have growing from packets that were sent to me prior to this past spring, and some from my own seeds! Most are doing well, although I did lose a few really tiny ones when I brought them indoors and trans-planted them into little 2" pots to winter over under lights. I think the change in humidity and the light change did them in. It's ok, though... I have plenty of each variety or cross.
This entire process has been so enlightening and so much fun! From the initial buying, planting and blooming, to the pollinating and crossing, and the seed harvest... and then to plant the seeds that I helped create! Sure, it takes a lot of patience to care for these little guys, and know that it'll be at least two years before I see any scapes at all, but it's all so worth it! I can only imagine the beauty that awaits within these tiny little pea-sized bulbs!
This is more than a hobby... it's a love, a passion... a need to nurture and bring new beauty into the world! Now that I'm knee deep in all of this, I can't imagine not having all this in my life! I owe you all a debt of gratitude... you've helped fill my winters and greatly lessened the blues I normally go through... and you've shown me what's possible through the breeding process. It's truly an amazing journey... and I'm so glad I get to share it all with every one of you! :-)
