OT: Cooking or WSing?

This is too funny. I got home from work tonight and, being the first day of school and all, decided I would not head to the garden for once but instead be a good mommy and cook a real dinner (smile).

Not much in the fridge...hmmm,there's that ground turkey I bought in an attempt to eat healthier, but I don't know what to make with it.Head to my cookbook -google search for ground turkey- and don't let myself get sidetracked checking GW while I am at the computer! Good mommy!

I click on the first recipe - turkey burgers - rated 5 stars by reviewers, yes, this sounds good and easy. Print it out and guess who posted it? Our very own Trudi!!!! How's that for a coincidence? Too funny. I am headed out to the grill to make them now. Trudi - cooks, gardens, are you the next Martha? (smile)

LOL!

I just made mini-meatloaves with them this week. This is a mainstay recipe here, last week it was meatballs. MY brother is coming down to NY next weekend and we're doing the BBQ here, I am making turkey burgers. Hubs really does love them because they really are actually delicious.

Because the food store shopper in our house (me) has been making quick dashes in the store all summer instead of doing a "real" shop, we had no hamburger buns in the freezer. So I made the ground turkey mixture into long loaves to fit on hot dog buns and grilled them up.

Rave reveiws! I will be adding this one to the "quick and easy when the family is whining for dinner and I want to stay in the garden a bit longer" list! Thanks Trudi!

I'm no tulip expert, but I'll toss in my 2 cents worth. Tulip bulbs need to be chilled in order to grow correctly. I didn't know that many years ago when I lived in Dallas. There wasn't enough natural cold weather that winter and I didn't put the bulbs in the fridge. What I got were blooms sitting right on top of leaves, with no stem. It was definitely a conversation piece in my neighborhood. With that said I would vote against your option of "potting them indoors, giving them some time inside to root". I can't address the moisture/rot problem in your environment, but if your ground is already frozen, my inexperienced vote would be to pot them up in big pots and put outside. I would again emphasize that I'm not an expert, and encourage you to lean heavily on responses other than mine. :)

I've never had anyone offer to cook before, but we don't have many visitors and since we've been destroying the house at every opportunity, I'd hate to ask anyone over for a family dinner. Everyone is holding out for the finished product, I believe. That being said, I would let someone cook. I doubt they could do any more damage than I could in one meal. But we have a pretty no-fuss kitchen. It's meant to be used, and if something happens, it happens. It can be replaced or lived with. I did have a family member come over early one morning to watch the girls so I could go to an appt. without waking them up at 5 am. She called at 7 am to ask how to work the range. In that moment I saw myself being greeted in the driveway by firetrucks and the charred remains of the new kitchen. I told her there was cereal and oatmeal in the pantry, and the microwave was in the pantry cabinet in the kitchen. I probably would stay in the kitchen were she to offer.

I never soak my beans anymore because I buy them bulk from a really popular market and they are really fresh. After years of cooking beans I have finally accepted that they have a better texture if cooked in the crock pot. I desperately want them to be better in Le Creuset, but they're not. I can cook them all day in the crock pot and they are creamy and beautiful, never overcooked. I second what laughable said about salt. Don't add it until the end. This is particularly true with older beans. Unlike CEFreeman, I adore beans. I like Reese's Peanut Butter cups too...

We love ground turkey around here. It's the most common basis for all our stir fry and fajitas. Ground turkey, marinated and then reduced (in the wok) in cumin, garlic and soy sauce is pure heaven.

mm, those sound good! I love the the allrecipes site too. the reviews are always helpful. I could provide several recipes for our cookbook! I love to bake and cook and try new recipes!

I started with ground turkey burgers last January. Now in addition to that we eat turkey sausages, bacon, pastrami, and deli cuts. Next year my big beef maters will be big bird maters..can I do that Trudi?

Even comes with wine recommendations! :)

I'll have to try it, hub loves ground turkey. Usually I make meat loaf (turkey, oatmeal, red onions, kosher salt, mixed pepper) and top it with pepper rings and saurbraten sauce.
