OK, my oldest son graduated from Ohio State this afternoon and I have been flummoxed all weekend. I have been a single mom for 15 years and this is a HUGE day. I think PV, Tiffy and Vera will all agree that Joe Pye does its thing in its own time. It seems to do best here in Ohio as a edge of woodland plant. I know that gardeners here look for it growing along the rivers, but it is hard to find. It pops late here.

Welcome Linda and Dan! I was a newbie a few months ago and loved the wintersowing. Its addictive though so fair warning. You can send away for a SASE for tomato 6packs of seeds and 6 (or more ) random seeds to get you started from the Wintersown.org. Also, I think bakemom does newbie packs that the kind folks have donated. I have no other advice other than to heed the no sharpie rule unless you are good at recognizing seedlings. After I learned the hard way I put tongue depressors inside the container with the name written on it. Have fun! Betsy

It was seeing your pic of 'Loraine sunshine'in a previous post that really sold me on it! I put it on my wish list and started looking for seeds and didn't get any. I finally got some seedlings at the GW swap in London last week. I am very excited...I have the plain heliopsis and love it, but I really love the look of the variegated leaves and the bright sunny yellow blooms of 'Loraine'! Any idea of how many will come true to the mother plant? Does it seem that the majority come up plain green? I would hate to give any away, when I finally do get them to flower and seed, and not have them come true for anyone.
