I'm back who wanted what seeds

I am back home to the wonderful sleet and cold in MD. I felt like turning around and getting back on a plane. Maybe I would have if the airlines hadn't LOST a piece of my luggage!!!!!!! The suitcase with the plants and seeds did arrive safely. Unfortunately Kyle's clothing, toys, DVD's, my camera, hairdryer, hair iron and worst of all Kyle's special blankie are in the missing piece of luggage. I'm so pissed off. This has only happened to me once before and the luggage was located and rerouted to National within a couple hours. So far they have no idea where my suitcase is : (

Rant over. lol Please post and let me know what seeds you want. I brought plenty of almost everythingI previously listed home. I also brought home some palm seeds even though nobody said they wanted any so if you changed your mind about the palms let me know. BTW one variety is queen palm and I think the other is a sabal palm.

Welcome back to MD Karyn! Sorry about the lost luggage and hopefully they will deliver it today. Did you tell them how urgent it was to get Kyle's blankie :-)

Welcome back...at least the forum is a nice,warm and friendly place and nothing gets lost here ...well....SOMETIMES our threads roflmao

Sorry about this and hope they will find it. Had suitcases missing for over 1 day before and only DD calling every 5 minutes made them get behind it, I think.

Was thinking about you this morning...wondering how long you are in FL...and here you are...BACK :-)

Hi, I returned to gardening a few years ago when I discovered container gardening. I grew in ground 20+ years ago and had large garden at home and a plot away from home. Madame Arthritis put a stop to that -- but now there are containers and raised beds!! Espoma - I love their products. I use Espoma TomatoTone, Espoma Garden Lime, Espoma GreenSand, Espoma Potash, Espoma Garden Manure and Espoma BioTone Plus and many of their other products. I find them a bit pricey but local garden centers have 25% off sales each Memorial and Labor Day so I stock up. In the past I used 5-10-10 or 10-10-10 from anyone of several companies. Rodger, welcome back! I was afraid the USDA had you locked up, for attempting to take their entire pea collection. (lol) Glad to hear that so many of your seed crops went well, I remember your post about the "Insuk's Wang Kong" being knocked down by wind. It was a challenging year for many of us, although it ended up being pretty productive. You're living my dream, Rodger; I hope to grow large-scale seed crops when I retire. It's a labor of love. For now, I can only grow small preservation plantings. For me, I'm not sure what the future holds. A job promotion last Fall has improved my situation financially, but the increased hours will be cutting into the time I usually spend with family & garden. I'll be continuing my preservation efforts, but perhaps at a reduced level... I'll see how it goes this Summer. My vegetable list for 2009 is still a work in progress; it never gets firmed up until I get the SSE yearbook, and search it for items on my wish list. It should be out any day now. I will be re-growing "Sangre de Toro" as a dry bean. While it showed great potential last year, the rabbits severely damaged it (all but 3 vines!), and I want to see what it can do without interference. The entire garden will be surrounded by rabbit fencing this year, the losses last year were intolerable. "Ma Williams" will be my main shell bean this year, it's time to replenish my seed stocks - and my freezer. "Kentucky Wonder White #191" will be my main pole snap, 4 plants last year gave me 3 pounds of seed!!! "Atlas" (bush shell), "Emerite" (pole snap), "Snowcap" (pole shell) and several others that have yet to be chosen will be for trial & preservation. Hopefully a couple new varieties from the USDA as well. Will be growing "King of the Garden" limas this year, a variety that has proven difficult here in the past. I've gotten much better at starting limas as transplants, so I think it has a good chance of success. Another lima will be chosen from the Yearbook for preservation. For cowpeas, I will be growing several heirlooms from SSE; "Green Dixie" (a very large-seeded "eye" pea with light green seed), "Speckled Purple Hull" (small brown & tan seed), and "Thailand Pole" (grey seed, possible use as yardlong). All are pole or semi-pole. Will be growing two yardlongs as well, haven't decided which ones yet. Weather permitting (and that is a big "if" after last year) I will be conducting a large trial of English peas this year, at least 10 commercial varieties. Probably all of those currently listed by Vermont Bean Seed, plus several others. I will be focusing on yield, rather than earliness... and since they will likely be planted late, on heat resistance. "Green Arrow" is my standard. Other stuff too... yes, I do grow more than just beans, believe it or not. But since this is the bean forum, I'll post the rest elsewhere. Rodger, can't make promises that far ahead, but I'm going to try like blazes to make that Fall Harvest Festival. Quite a few people will be there that I'd like to meet. I'd like to participate in the seed swap as well, if this Northerner wouldn't be upsetting the apple cart. ;-) Hope to be seeing a lot of you here this Summer!

Wow Jane, I am tired just reading about what all you did! Sounds like a wonderful time and lots of work and effort on your part. What a large group to entertain! So nice that your DH helps you with the decorating. Mine does not help with the inside at all. I carry everything up from the basement including the trees, all the boxes, ladders, etc. The only thing he does outside is put a blow mold Santa on our mailbox, although this year, he did run an extension cord from the backyard for some of the lights as they kept tripping the breaker this year! Again, getting everything down out of the rafters, off of the shelves, and put up is up to me! Sorry, I just needed to vent a little. I get a bit envious when I hear of other DH's that help with decorating. Anyway, looking forward to your pix. TFS, Candy

I got my suitcase back minus a camera, DVD's and hair dryer. All that's left are clothes which were a mess. Thank goodness Kyle's blankie was there. I've been on hold waiting for a representative from Southwest Airlines since I got home......still on hold!!!!!! This hasn't been a good day. I had an appointment this morning and decided to stop by and see DH. One of the big trucks delivering flowers to the warehouse hit my car!!!! I guess better me then a customer but............

I know that there were others that wanted seeds. Post here and I'll email you for your address.

The news are just not good yet and what I wished would happen..nothing but good things.

I must say, since we are not allowed to lock our suitcases anymore...and I have not bought a lock from the Security guys...I never put anything of value in the suitcase anymore.

Hope you get reimbursed and man that sucks that you got hit :-(

Stay home and do farming...NOTHING happens to you then lol

Darn Karyn, as if the airlines losing your luggage wasn't bad enough, but they also stole stuff! And, then you car gets hit! Hope the rest of the days go better for you.

Glad you are ok. Sorry it's not to warmer weather that you are back to. Terrible about the stolen stuff and the car crash. Days can only get better right? We are closer and closer to spring, thats something to look forward to.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes...as for the weather- calling for possible ice here Fri/Sat- an infrequent event, fortunately. You shared some cuttings and seeds w/ me a couple yrs ago. The daturas did well but I did not succeed w/ any of the brugs. The daturas that made it are white, so I am interested in yellow or orange. I would still like to try to get a brug started, but I guess I would pick a different place to plant it. Anyway, if you still have anything to share, let me know. Thanks, Brandyray

Sorry to hear that the brugs didn't make it. I didn't collect any brug or datura seeds while there and don't have any cuttings this time of year. I usually have seeds and cuttings in the fall.
