First 2009 Butterfly Release, Unfortunately

MissSherry

I check the chrysalids and cocoons in my dark, unheated guest room nearly every day, because, unfortunately, a few butterflies and moths emerge during the middle of winter every year. Yesterday it was a giant swallowtail, so I released it this morning. The sky is dark, there's fog and a 70% chance of rain, and I haven't seen any other GSTs to mate with this one - even if there was, there's no new growth on my orange tree, and few if any leaves on my pteleas for butterfly eggs. Also, I don't think swallowtails are cold hardy, so this poor thing is undoubtedly doomed. Uh oh, it just started pouring down rain!

We've been having very warm weather, so maybe it got too warm in the guest room, although it feels cool in there to me.

Want to start a new butterfly release thread, Sandy? :)
