Brenda i honestly couldn't think of a more fun thing to do on my birthday than go shopping for plants. I am a plantaholic too and i even get suckered in by the cheap flower books that come in winter. Everything just looks so pretty and then you get it and its a little stick?! LOL....I just cant help it i love them all! My poor hubby already looks like a drunk when he mows the grass because i plant bushes and trees everywhere and he has to weave in and out, in and out. I was teasing him one day and told him he mowed like a snake and he said "thanks to my wife"! LOL...I need a landscaper so bad because i suck at it. Im scared to put my precious babies next to the fence because we have toxic neighbors that cut and spray on our side. So i plant them all over the middle of the yard. I dont know how he puts up with me but he does. I LOVE your dinosaur petunia on steroids! How cool is that! I have to get plants at least over two feet tall because my grass takes them over and i will never find them again. Poor hubby would accidentally mow them down and then i would cry. Yes im a baby and cry for my poor plants. Especially if it is one i had for a long time. LOL....Back to the needing a landscaper thang :-) Brenda please ask your mom if there is a trick to growing viburnums because i am new at it and i dont want to kill my new babies. I know they like it moist and sunny, if she can think of anything else please let me know ,if you dont mind :-) I love native plants too. Big surprise huh :-) Bonnie

Thanks, everyone, for the great Birthday wishes! Lucy, my cake would be on fire!! 60 candles today. I've already had two dozen beautiful white and peach roses from my sweetheart, and a waltz around the office with that same sweetheart of 23 years! Having a wonderful day already; it only took 20 minutes to renew my driver's license this morning, I'm being treated to lunch at a great Thai restaurant, and there is a party with family and friends on Sunday. And you all just made it better! Love ya all! Brenda, the birthday girl! LOL!

Thanks you guys! First thing Sunday morning my mom called to wish me happy birthday. My dad in the background, wanted to let me know that in 5 years I would be 50 and in 10 years I could take early retirement. (Guess I would have to work somewhere where that would apply first). I spent time taking pictures of new irises that just opened and cleaned the house a little since I knew that there were people coming for supper (but I didn't know who). My DH made supper while others who came brought salads and cake. Physically, I felt the best and coughed the least for the first time in 3 weeks. Pneumonia is not fun. I had been sleeping for hours each day and coughing a lot. I had never had pneumonia before and hopefully will never have it again. My DH and daughter and her husband went together and bought me a HP Photosmart printer. But, we can't install it yet because my computer only has 500mb of space left (because of all the GBs of pictures that are on it) and the printer installation uses 425 of memory. Think we need to burn some DVD's of pictures! Does anyone else have this printer? What do you think of it? But my best birthday present came yesterday. Laurie, 2 other friends of ours and myself drove to St. Anne's and visited Eleanor Hutchison who has a Canadian iris display garden in her yard. Over the past few weeks, Eleanor saw irises in my photobucket that she didn't have and I saw irises that she posted on Can-West Iris Society website, that I didn't have, so we traded. Then while we were there I bought some more. So, all in all, I came home with another 20 different kinds of MDBs and SDBs. Eleanor also took us to 4 nurseries in the area and we went to one on our own. Laurie's car was full of plants on the way home. We only arrived home at 9:30 just in time to bring in all the annual pots off the deck and cover the tomatoes and peppers in the garden because of the chance of frost last night.(It didn't freeze here last night, thank goodness) So, some new irises to my collection, that I can remember the names for, are... Thanks a lot you guys!!! I really appreciate the two birthday cakes! Now, I believe all that icing and the candles was just a coverup for a tasty chocolate cappichino cheesecake and a snickers chocolate cheesecake. I needed 2 cheesecakes 'cause everyone in the FN was able then to have some. They were sooo good! Back to reality. At 3:00am our 20 year old son woke us up to tell us that he brought a few friends home and they were going to use the hot tub. At 5:30 he woke us up again to ask us if he was in trouble...he had driven his friends back to their homes and on the way back here to our home, came across a drunk driver who had just finished totalling her car in the ditch. She asked for a ride to her home and so, he obliged and now wanted to know if he would be in trouble legally. We told him that no, since she did not hit anyone, it would be considered a single vehicle accident and it would be her choice to leave her car and go home for a few hours. By that time I was wide awake. So I got up, checked the FN and made my list/map for garage sales. Yes, Marg and I went garage saling. It was great! We had a wonderful time. What better way to spend a birthday than to do something you love to do with a very special friend. I bought stuff for the new office...2 clocks, coffee table and end tables, leather chair and ottoman...even a garbage can. For me, a spagetti strapped top (its original owner went to Thailand, bought it there and it shrunk so she couldn't wear it anymore...fits me perfectly), assorted scented body lotions (working in the garden in summer makes my feet and hands so dry I use a lot of lotion and love all the assorted scents out there these days), scrapbooking paper and stickers (someday I will get back into my stuff, maybe when things get slow at the office this winter), Partylite candle, christmas ornaments, tupperware (an oval 2 and oval 5 modular mate to go along with all my other modular mates with the assorted colored lids already at home), huge huge shallow wicker basket with a handle to plant up. Marg and I thought that petunias would look great in there. Marg thought it was large enough to plant 12 petunias in. So, today's job... A picture frame with dragonflies all around the frame, etc, etc. To go garage saling with someone who shares the same interests is wonderful...they can see an item and know exactly what you will do with it to make it better. Marg bought a number of baskets that, with a touch of paint, would look awesome. One garage sale we went to had some plants in the landscaping that we did not know. After talking to the owner, she gave me a baby and I will be posting a picture of its leaves later this week, when I get time, for you all to identify for me. She did not know what it could be. I had to make my own lunch and lunch for my DH and DS (who were mowing grass in the yard when I arrived home). I needed to have seafood at least once on my birthday so I made us some shrimp alfredo for lunch. In the afternoon I walked around my garden, taking pictures of my flowers blooming today. My DH and I went back to Brandon and picked up the furniture I purchased in the morning and took it to the office. My DD and her husband came over for supper, played Taboo, went for a walk down the country road (us and the dogs) and then came back to nibble on pineapple and watch a movie, the Wedding Crashers (a very morally wrong, lighthearted comedy). A great way to spend the evening, with family, doing no work. For my birthday cake today my DH bought two 1/4 cheesecakes from the best bakery in town, Sweet Temptations. I had my choice of a cappichino or a Snickers chocolate cheesecake. My DD and her husband gave me $ to buy plants and my DH bought me a new watch. My youngest son has been at a track and field meet near Winnipeg for the last few days and told me that I would get my present from him today. My 20 year old son also today. My DH bought a prime rib roast and we will be having a family supper here today 'cause my DD turns 21 tomorrow. Saturday turned out to be a wonderful day. Thanks for the 2 cakes! You all on the FN share the same passion for gardening as I do, and I am having a wonderful time getting to know you all better! Brenda

Thanks again for all the great birthday wishes. My hubby just took me to a fancy local restaurant for a gourmet lunch, with impeccable service- was treated like royalty!

Mike, let's see, I seem to remember you giving me about, .....what was it.......39 years! Hey, I know that brug had at least 150-175 blossoms on it- now ya have me competing with Methusala!! LOL! Thanks, Bud!!!

I did get a nice birthday present this morning- I unwrapped the moss from around 4 of my cuttings received earlier in January. There is no growth to speak of in the way of leaves but they are growing some very healthy looking roots................. YES!!!!!!! This method works great!

Kristy, what kinda cake did ya get??? lol!
Ya'll probably don't know about the tres leches cakes (we live in a community with lots of Hispanics)- It is a white cake made a little coarse. The cook pours three kinds of milk on it and it saturated the lower layers. Mine had strawberry filling, too!! So yummy!!!

Michelle- Yeah, Aquarius starts out sounding good but quickly moves into being scary- I use the excuse that I'm on the cusp, so not full-fledge ......... but I kinda am just like that!! Oh no! Try being in a room with several people ya know are Aquarius- they keep eye-balling each other, checking each other out- it's real funny!!! Let's not do that when we meet, okey???? ;-)
