Gulf frits can't survive on most of the red-flowering passionvines, so it's safer to go with the blues/purples. Their favorite here (and widely used in Florida) is the native maypops/P. incarnata, and in Florida, they're known to use P. suberosa/corky-stemmed passionvine Unfortunately, P. suberosa doesn't make big showy flowers. In most habitats where fritillaries are present, there are multiple look-alike species. So that makes them hard to identify to species level. This is contrary to one of the bugguide key ID points. You may want to make a list of all the medium-sized fritillaries common to that location and see if there is a more precise match, or just refer to your butterfly as a fritillary.
