Two Black & Blue Salvia questions.

Hi,

I have three Black and Blue Salvias that are doing well in my garden. Paid $6 each for them at the garden center and that's a lot for me. They are not hardy to this zone but I want to keep them for next year. They are not forming seeds so must be a hybrid. Have any of you had luck with taking cuttings of the B&B? If so, how did you do it? I have lights in the garage so I could winter over the cuttings there. Also...I am thinking of cutting them down after the first frost and covering the bases with round paving stones to keep them warmer over the roots during the winter. I did this once with a fragile Dahlia tuber and it worked fine. What do you think? I am open to suggestions. What has been your experience with B&B Salvias? Thanks.

Tina
