Japanese Maple Seeds

When do Japanese Maples set seeds? I always assumed they set seed in fall.

But now I am remembering that silly Silver Maple out back dropped seeds into all of my W/S containers this spring and I had to pluck little trees out of all of them.

My FIL has a nice Bloodgood that I would like to collect seeds from.

I think in oct or nov.
not really sure, but definitely not in spring, If you join the seed swap I'd love some.

We have a short japanese maple -- I'll try to collect seeds.

I have Bloodgood, Fireglow and a threadleaf JM's and will trot out to the garden and see what's still hanging on the tree, so they will be fresh. Would like to trade for your white lunaria and balloonflower mix. Doreen.

I wrote something about germinating Acer palmatum seeds on this forum, see link. I wouldn't be too concerned about the mold but if you are then throw away the seeds that have mold. What you are doing now is not scarification but just soaking the seeds for 24 hours. After this they need 2 to 3 months STRATIFICATION (exposure to low temperatures) in order to germinate. Hi,I purchased some off E.Bay here in the UK.Unsure where you are but it may well be worth a look.E.Bay USA..Alternately perhaps consider buying some from a reputable seller.I wouldn't think they would be Expensive to buy.... Probably the most Satisfying option would be to get out there yourself and Gather some Seeds yourself from beneath & around any Maple Trees in your Vicinity.They should be ready to gather soon..September ~ October.... Remember to sow the seeds as fresh as you can and wait a couple of seasons (winters) for them to germinate. I didn't know they needed two winters or a cold-warm-cold to start them up and dumped my containers. The next year I had three seedlings but they died the next winter. It's a tough one to get going here.
