Sorry, to hear about your seeds. I started some seeds first part of March going by this website: http://www.faculty.sbc.edu/simpson/Lotus/index.htm and so far so good. If you can get somemore seeds you might want to try seeding them this way. Mine are now planted in milk jugs with about 3 inches of dirt and 2 inches of water. They are sitting in the window on a heating pad turn on low. Hopefully come May I will plant them in there own planters outside near the pond. Good Luck!

I have been too afraid of trying to grow lotus from seeds, but now that I finally found some good instructions, these seeds seem to suddenly be sold out everywhere. Does anyone here have some HARDY BLUE lotus seeds or HARDY BLUE waterlily seeds to give away? I live in Brooklyn, NY and would love some. I have lots of plants with which to barter, but I don't trust myself to mail anything properly. Almost all my plants are fully grown and too large to send anyway. However, I would love to exchange my many perennials from my organic garden for aquatic bulbs or plants. I am also looking for oxygenating plants. I live right near the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and we can combine a visit there with a plant exchange.

It might depend on where the seeds are from. Nelumbo nucifera is a native here and the colours range from whitish to pink and a slightly darker red, so that will be in their genetics. If the seeds come from a natural population then any of those colours might express themselves in the seedlings. If they're from cultivated plants where the colour range is limited then there would be less likelihood of variation from the parent. With Nelumbo nucifera there's always a bit of an element of a roll of dice.
