I don't think Lupines like too much water, so if you were watering them on top of the rain that might have been to much for them. If they are still healthy they might branch out a little. I've also never seem rebloom on Baptisia.

Vera, That seems odd that it isn't blooming or at least starting to put up some of those little "cones" now. My Lupine is blooming now, but none of them are "The Chatalaine". I did have some of that type that I purchased as bareroots before I started WSing. They didn't come up, but I'm about 95 percent sure that it was because the voles ate them (like they did just about everything I planted back then). Are they in an area with alot of shade? All of my Lupines are in places either in full or part sun (but at the back of the garden bed). Linda

That's what I would suggest too...after you collect your seeds (here ours can be collected by June) just cut it clean down to the ground. A vast majority of the native population (especially the ones on open south facing rocky hillsides) wither away on their own over summer. I've had plans to go out and collect some every year but I always miss it...it's a little drive from here around the back roads or along the highway hillsides. In my immediate area we have too many cattle and horses and Lupine is a no no around them...it kills horses and sheep and causes Crooked Calf Disease when pregnant cows eat it. Shame they are soooooooooooo pretty with their silver lined fuzzy leaves! We have the purple flowering and a not too common cream flowering one. Not sure my my answer will be exactly helpful but... When I want more lupine in the garden I simply press the seed into the ground as soon as they are dry in the pod, like yours. They usually bloom second or third year (mostly second though). I don't think you could get blooms next year (even chilling/planting now) unless you had a greenhouse to speed up the process. You might (might I have never tried it before, so can't say with any certainty) be able to get blooms next year by propagating your lupine via basal cuttings.
