If you want to grow alot of these you need to start them in open flats. Get some plastic trays from the five and dime. You are looking for something that would double as the bottom of a cat litter box. With about a 1/2 inch wood drill bit put about 12 holes in it. Six of them on the curve of the bottom to side. This is so if sitting flat it won't fill with water. I use a compost soil with a little sand and mix 50% with miracle grow soil or peters which is sold in our area. Fill about an inch from the top and water thoroughly. Add more soil if needed to keep an inch from the top. Lay out seeds flat with about the same space as the seeds are wide. Cover with 1/4 inch of soil mix. Mist top of soil until real wet. Set in semi bright light or on porch but not full sun. After they have had three or four leaves come out strong you can gradually introduce them to more sun. Don't worry about thinning out after they start sprouting. Leave in the tray and fertilize as required. Donts soak and don't let dry out. Leave them in tray for first year, then plant them out or in pots. You will end up with over 50+ a tray and are great for starting a whole bed with one tray. Hoped that helped you some it has worked for us for years. I have that book along with any other Hosta books available. I'm a person that gets inspired by the visual. I look though my books all the time either for an idea for some issue or just allow the book to 'speak' to me. I don't collect a lot of tiny or very small hostas but I do have some. I definitely got some ideas from looking at this book. I realized this year that keeping the mini's in pots is fine but in the long run more tricky for me in my climate. This year I created two more areas where the little ones could be in the ground (pictures attached). The second picture where the Buddha lives also had the little pagoda thing added inspired by a picture in the book. I do agree there could have been more identifying going on. The first picture brings these plants up higher to view as you walk by. It was partially inspired by the raised bed in the book although that one was made of wood and much higher and larger than this. This garden previously had a collection of blues and greens. This is one of the few areas of the garden without overhead watering. The plants here don't get so spotty from hard water. The places where the mini's and smalls are was full of plants similar to the size of Devon Green and Blue Wedgwood. It looks fine but I realized this year that using the contrast of size was pleasing to my eye.

no ... the papou list under FAQ's is not a ten foot rule list .... IMHO ..... great list though.. don't get me wrong .... tell you the truth .. i don't even like the other FAQ post about what a ten foot hosta is ... go figure .... THE RULE: a hosta that any basic collector can name from ten feet away .. no matter whose garden in what region of the country or what ever country ..... e.g sum and substance.... its a giant... that grows like a weed, with a unique color ... and frankly ... anyone who owns it can ID it anywhere in the world ... no ask the owner.. no vein count.. no concern over flower color ... period... YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS from at least ten feet away ... now there is a definition of the ten foot rule .... IN THEORY .... there can NOT be a 'look alike' for a ten foot hosta .... that would be contrary to the whole point ..... look for the new post ... i will start with guardian angel .... trust me.. its unique.. and there is no look alike .... ken i will start a new post for pix of ten footers ....

I think the frustration with eBook prices has to do with the comparison to hardcover book prices. If I can buy a hardcover for $15.39, why should I pay $14.99 for the same eBook when the publisher doesn't have to print it or ship it? Also, places like Barnes & Noble do not offer any discounts on eBooks even if you are a member. That bothers me. Lately, the new releases have been priced at $12.99 which is better, but still too high IMHO. I think eBooks should be priced at paperback prices.
