Amaryllis/Hippeastrum

Ok,so i crossed my amarylisses(sp) and got seeds,planted them,sprouted and had their first leaf.They r cute like that,but its been two months since the first leaf emerged and no second leaf in sight....when do i get to see it,or am i rushing things?Its my first time growing amaryllis from seed and i really dont want to ruin it!

i also planted amaryllis seed for the first time this year. most of the seeds went into the ground in may. i have them in trays that hold 72 1 and 1/2 inch holes. they are in a greenhouse with light shade. i feed them with liquid feed at each full watering. mine have from 2-3 leaves now.

Wow r you fast or what? 3 leaves?Im so jealous!I have them in a shallow plastic container,i would put them in a large pot but im reluctant cause i might rot them....perhaps i could give them a light dose of fertilizer too boost their growth....

I just moved to the Mojave Desert in California (Southwest forum is sloooowww) and I brought my beautiful fucshia with me. I came in mid June. It was in a wooden pot with a couple blooms, a few buds and stems about 15" long. I put it on a west covered patio with medium shade and out of the wind. The blooms fell off within a week and then the buds, etc. I moved it to another porch recieving only North sun but it declined there too. I kept it misted several times a day in both spots. I also increased watering times. Nothing helped my poor fucshia. I have now repoted it in a plastic pot with new soil and moved it indoors with a room that is cooled by swamp cooler (more humidity then AC I am told) and it is in front of a window that gets bright light. I also cut it back to about 4" to it's healthiest leaves. I got my fingers crossed that at least I can have it as a houseplant here or indoor/outdoor???

I'm in Zone 6. They get over 6 hours of sun per day, which is what the packet recommended they get. I don't know why the vine on the left is so far behind in growth. I don't have much faith in getting anything out of that one. I just don't think it's going to mature in time before the first freeze hits.

After seeing your princeps I checked ebay on a whim and palmswholesale actually has 10 available(I trust them as well as collector palms both seem to be pros)about 40bucks should put out some nice (first)fans this summer,hopefully looking close to as nice as yours by the end of next fall!I also saw a takil(although not sure of seller)around $20.I picked up a "takil"(foot and a half tall!) for 7 bucks! (sometimes you get lucky)last fall,I was the only one to bid.ebay also had some manipur,nanus and wagnerianus all from dealers I know and trust,thanks for pictures very inspiring,can't wait to get my princeps now I guess I just need oreophilus,latisectus and martianus time to remove some furniture lol.

Gorgeous, Barb!! I know how you feel! This is the first year my Pink Pansy has bloomed. It took years! I have never had such a sloooowww grower. Does yours seem to grow much?

i am about to transplant some of the largest ones into six-paks. the seedlings have all ready rooted out to the edges of their cells in the propagation tray. i am trying to push their growth along. i do let them dry down a little between waterings, and feed them about once a week. they are in pretty high light and that helps move them along.
