Mason bees - best food sources or backup food sources

I'm thinking back on what a miserable spring we had here in the pacific northwest, and wondering what I can do better next year, to improve survival and return rates.

It's possible that food played a role in my high dispersement rate. Fruit trees bloomed well in advance of the bees emergence, so when they finally emerged in April there was only garden plants to sustain them.

Q1: In case similar conditions happen again, is there any sort of backup food sources I can supply, like a sugar solution?

Q2: Any idea what some of their favorite foods might be? If there's anything I can plant in a suburban flower garden, I'll try to incorporate it. I want to keep them around.

Thanks
