I too have a few bulbs of reticulatum. In this hot summer I decided to keep the terracotta pot at ful sun in the afternoon. Finally the bulbs after about 1 year decided to spring the leaves, leathery and dull green, reddish underside. I use a mix of bark and sphagnum peat. One of the bulb have a bud too. I am growing it from seed too but the only seedling survived has not the white strip.

The underside of the leaves of my "Silhouette", (particularly the fresh young leaves) is indeed pink colored, too.

It would be great if this bud be developing fortunately and - who knows - further scapes from the other bulbs appear... and if you could show us here...
The documentation on species amaryllis is so deplorably rare. On the other hand one possible reason for this should be excluded here, that is that the owner subsequently be receiving a lot of enquiries (I guess so).
"Silhouette" is readily available. I admit that the quality of that bulb was not to be considered as "perfect" (there was indeed contamination with bulb scale mite evident)

Hans-Werner,
other bulbs bought at Bakker (in my case "Sumatra") also shows signs of bulb scale mite and even notching, but the performance of the blooms is really great.
I hope that the really hot summer here in Italy with up to 38° Celsius in the shade (while the bulbs are in full sun) will take care of these %$@/§$ creatures :)

I have had Hippeastrum "Silhouette" growing in a pot for about 5 years. The bulb has multiplied but never bloomed. It looks very much like the photo. One year ago I recieved a similar plant with a cream colored stripe instead of the white stripe. I have read where the white stripe is typical of the species and cream stripe typical of a hybrid.

That is unfortunate news in my ears, and I regret that you did not obtain blooms in this long time span.
On the other hand I am confident that I shall receive blooms in fall 2007 - provided the plants will now continue for a prolonged time in the magnitude of growth velocity which I actually observe.
You certainly know that I administer lukewarm water - but from the bottom, including diluted fertilizer every time ( 1 ml/L of a liquid 6-3-6 brand).
I definitely intend to use "Silhouette" for breeding purposes (if you have not guessed this already, too) - and I want to see the seedlings with their center stripe in my balkony box which I use as hippeastrummateous kindergardens, in the wisdom of numerousity - and regardless whether the ligament be creamy or pure white.
And certainly you can also guess what knight star lily I have in mind to rendezvous this tiny "Silhouette" with. For now I wrap myself into silence (forgive my likely inappropriate terminology) - nevertheless these respective amaryllis' are overreadily waiting for their time to come, in rather huge containers

Hello Hans and everyone. Hans that stripe of white against the deep green is so stunning. I have seen nothing like it before. I anxiously await to hear the progress of it's blooming and mating! "Beware of" the frequent images on he web which show H."Garfield" but with the wrong assignment "H.reticulatum".

The advertisement photos of "Silhouette", distributed in countless copies on the web *lol* are principally showing the "true" blossoms but in a pathetic thumbnail size and in a deplorable photographic quality and often overcolored. *Grrrrrrrrrrrh*
