Where to buy bamboo
Comments (1)Hi Linny, I spent last weekend running around. I found the best selection at Summer Winds on AZ Ave. I bought a Buddha's Belly Bamboo , Bambusa tuldoides 'Ventricosa' there. they also had Golden Godess, Black, and Timber there at the time. But be prepared for sticker shock on the Black and Timber $$$$$$. Both the Black and the Timber are usually runners, the G.G. and B.B. are clumpers. Harpers in Mesa had a GORGEOUS B.B. but it was $80. They all seem to come from Monrovia nursery and the staring prices seen to be around $60.00 and up. Hope this helps, Jim...See MoreWhere to buy:Timor Black Clumping Bamboo in Nor.Cal?
Comments (8)Well, the EBAY seeds/seedlings are certainly LABELED as Timor Black Bamboo seeds. What you ultimately end up with will be a surprise (a good surprise or a dissapointing surprise, depending on your expectations and/or luck). If the seeds did actually come from a bamboo species from which there is no flowering record with the ABS or INBAR (it is possible though not probable), the seedlings will certainly vary in appearance, slightly or greatly, from the parent plant. And yes, imported bamboo seeds are subject to post-entry quarantine (1 year) in one of the few USDA quarantine stations maintained by Import Permit holders (regional ABS Chapters) in the USA. My Disclaimer: The statement above may obviously be considered biased since I'm an owner of a bamboo nursery. Take it for what it's worth - a statement of facts. I'm also the president of the Florida/Caribbean Chapter of the American Bamboo Society. Educating the public on bamboo-related issues is part of our mission statement. Comments (10)I'm a repeat customer of www.bamboogarden.com. They have an incredible selection and reasonable prices. The plants that they send are also top quality. However, since they're on the west coast, shipping gets to be a bit much to get the plants back east....See MoreWhere to buy bamboo?
Comments (17)You don't say where you live in Arizona and what your year around weather is like so it's hard to advise you. Arizona can be too brutal for many bamboo, so it would be best for you to get something you can see already growing there. Look locally at nurseries, or ask people growing large groves if you could dig up some. P.S.: It's always best to start your own, specific thread rather than piggybacking on someone else's....See Moredavid_74012
