What they're trying to say is that the red absynian banana, ensete maurellii, doesn't always come true from seeds. If they grow, some of them might be red, but most of them will be green. Most of the ensete maurelii are produced from tissue culture. I just got in a liner of 72 yesterday, but fed ex crunched them really bad. Sincerely, Sandy

So far we have a consensus for M. basjoo.... that would be great if true: I imagine a cultivar of this species that routinely gets this large AND is a bit more cold-hardy than the type is worth tissue culturing. We should have regenerated plants available by spring '06 As a P.S. to the fruiting banana video, that would be M. velutina. These do great here in terms of flowering/fruiting, but very low success in overwintering them over past 3 (cold!)winters.

Last year I purchased four tissue culture banana plants. I noticed as they grew last year that two of the plants I purchased, a mysore banana and a pitogo banana looked like the same plant. I am assuming I got 2 mysore plants because they both have a reddish pink tint to the underside of their leaves. However there is also a thin red line around the outside of the leaves and in all my recent research I have not seen the mysore plant's leaves described with this thin red line. Can anyone tell me if the mysore has this red rim on its leaves and if not what banana plants do? Thanks, Pat

Hi Jeff, Both Brian and Plant Delights I think are excellent.Both probably get there plants from the same place.I would chose the lowest price because they both will work with you if you have a problem.I think tissue culture are harder to grow than a pup.The closer it gets to the end of the year the lower the prices should drop.I have been watching the ebay siam's and fewer people are bidding at the current price.
