Well, I am the one who sold it. I remember once before reading some posts from people who were 'flaming' about ae ae that were being sold on eBay. So, I just did a search to see if that was still going on, and BINGO!!! This plant was 2 inches shy of being 6 feet tall. $18 for shipping was NOT a high price. It cost me $46 to mail it to the buyer. So, I dare say $18 WAS NOT A RIDICULOUS SHIPPING PRICE!!! Feel free to go to usps dot com and see how much it costs to mail a 24 pound plant to your house. You might be able to talk a hitchhiker into carrying it across country for less money, but you sure can't mail something the size of a body for less than $18!! I was amazed when I read that! As I told 'bananalover' earlier when she emailed me thru eBay, I have taught special education for 16 years. I am the music minister at my church. My family has worked for the Post Office since before I was born. I am NOT out to rip anyone off. I know it was worth more, but I needed to plant something else in its spot. I bought 300 pound postal shipping scales and WEIGH everything before shipping. And I still quote LOW on shipping. I have sent 3 people on this forum FREE ae ae!!! All they had to do was send me the actual postage cost after they received them. How's that for scamming and ripping people off? The banana I just sold was also just beginning to pup. So, the buyer will soon have 7-10 pups, too! Gosh, what a rip-off! An ae ae right at 6 feet tall, with 7 pups forming. I guess gas prices will rise next, huh?

I have bought several from the sources in Hawaii, so I KNOW that they are not shipping plants that are 6 feet tall for less than $18. I'm still blown away by the fact that someone would say something like that about the shipping! Did I mention it weighed 24 pounds, and it cost $46 to ship???????????!!!!!!!!!?!??!?!?!?!? So, where do you get off saying $18 is too much??? Unless you're sleeping with the Postmaster General, that is ENTIRELY impossible. As I told 'bananalover' earlier, many people think they've found a "catch" in the system, and they go online to purchase postage and print out postage/labels. What they do is misrepresent the actual weight of the object (i.e., they say that a 24 pound plant only weighs 9 pounds).......thus paying SUBSTANTIALLY less for shipping. How tricky is that? I could go online and print out postage for my car for only $5! Then I could go on the banana forum and brag about how I shipped my car clear to California for only $5, so how can someone be shipping a 6-foot tall banana for $18? Hopefully, we can think before we type next time....

Just my 2 cents-
No one forces anyone to buy things on Ebay. If someone wants the item, and is willing to pay any amount for it, then Ebay gives them an easy place to spend their money.

If that buyer chooses to do some research and decides that they don't want that item for that price, or that the shipping is too much, then they don't have to buy it.

Remember the Britney Spears chewing gum, the Virgin Mary grilled cheese, the bathroom water stain that looked like Jesus, etc, ... all being bought for thousands of dollars.

The fact is- Things are "worth" what people are willing to pay for them.

Goldpianogarden- You stated what you would sell and ship it for (whether some thought it was high or low) and a buyer said ok to that amount. Done- Enjoy your money.

This forum gives people a place to voice opinions and offer suggestions on all things bananas- comments on prices and shipping rates included. Let's keep it fun.

I have sold several Ae-Ae on E-Bay, the most was for 162.50 if I remember right. That was for a 3ft plus plant. It cost me $11 to ship to Virginia. I offered them to members on the "other" board for $150 and sold several for $125 but caught nothing but H for the high price. So I now have a nice yard full.

I DO agree that $300 is a lot but then it sounds like it was a great size plant. AND someone was willing to pay for it. Sometimes you catch an interested buyer on E-Bay and other times not. Last one I sold went for $125 for a 3-4 foot plant. The LAST one I saw on there for sale had not even put out a decent leaf, just swords so I do think that price was a lot. At least mine were all 3-4 ft pups.

It's like people that will pay Thousands over sticker price on a new model vette or exotic car just so they can have the first in their area.

Goldenpianogarden, $300 was a fair price for an Ae Ae that large with pups forming! And $18.00 was a bargain for shipping! I almost bid on it but some unexpected expenses came up so I decided not to. Hope you will have some more large size plants for sale in the future!

I'm sorry but I really have to butt in here. I don't know why everyone is giving Goldenpiano a hard time!!! Barry has been the most generous Gwebber that I have had the opportunity to meet on this board!!! Not many people will offer up an AeAe just for the cost of shipping. Look at my AeAe picture, that was from him. I practically had to bend his arm for him to accept my plants.
The costs of sending me a 1 1/2ft pup was about $15 dollars, imagine sending one that size. Its not one of those tiny pups offered up for a hundred dollars. It will take some effort into killing that AeAe, and was quite a bargain I think.
I will blame all this hostility on the Ebay experience most Gwebbers had. There are lots of terrible sellers on Ebay ripping people off. But Barry is one those rare few exceptional seller.
