Acidic fertilizer will not work on your Buddleias.....but the better the soil, the better the plant.....which may give you better looking flowers.

Congratulations on your first-year bloom. It's very pretty. I winter sowed butterfly bush a few years ago a got blooms the second year because I had no place to put them until the end of the summer. I planted out about four plants and two have grown quite large with beautiful blooms. The collection of butterflies I had in my garden last year was amazing. This year, I pinched them, and cut off the lower branches to produce fuller plants, and I also deadheaded them. The result is that we had our first frost tonight and I still had blooms on the plants. The second and third flush are smaller, but prettier than the large brown dried blooms. They have become a favourite in the garden and I am sure yours will too. Good luck!

Michelle, Congrats on a great thread. It is very rare to have a thread attain 100 responses and you clearly will go way over that. Another first for Camelot in SW VA Fritillary (sp.) I couldn't get close enough to determine what species. BTW, This beats my earliest Fritillary ever by 3 days. mike

How late is too late...Pruning Butterfly Bushes

Maybe better pruning a little late than too soon. I pruned mine back too early when we were having weather in the 70's back in March and almost killed them. The warm weather went on for so long that I thought it was going to stay that way (it didn't). Anyway, I agree with horster and I'd say to prune yours and have blooms a little bit later than usual, but they will bloom. Cathy

The pink zinnia sure brings out the pink of the lily. Very pretty together. I've got to start WS canna instead of digging and saving bulbs!
