Update on rotten bulbs

Last year I had a bulb rot in between the core and the outter layers. It ended up looking very odd.

I am glad to report that with lots of TLC, it looks like a "bulb" again, complete with 6 leaves. The middle has grown back and plumped up.

Another bulb, which I didn't photograph, was nearly totally rotten on the outside, with only the smallest of viable tissue in the middle. I cleaned it up (removed all brown flesh), and repotted it in good soil/medium. It's now sending up leaves and has tripled in size. Still small, but recovering.

If you see that you are losing a bulb (hey, in the humid Texas coastal areas, rot happens), clean them up and give them a second chance. I know early on a couple of bulbs probably eneded up in my compost heap...if only I knew then what I know now! Dark layers between healthy layers still make me very nervous!
