Banana Plant flowering, should i cut off suckers?

Hi, I am a newbie at banana growing and after 2 years my dwarf Brazilian banana finally is flowering and growing bananas! My question was that at the base, there are about 4 baby suckers and I was wondering if I can cut them out so the bananas will grow better or will it affect the mother banana plant if I cut them out? Please help. Thanks :)

Don't remove any pups at this point. It will weaken the root structure of the mother plant that is blooming. You run the risk of the mother being felled by wind.

I was told that after planting bananas (shorter variety) in the ground
as medium sized plants I should wait until they grow up to be about 2
meters (6-7 feet) tall and then allow suckers to grow. So as I understood I
have to keep on cutting off the suckers to make the main parent grow
stronger and have fruits in about 2 years after planting? And I
understand that I can plant the narrow-leafed suckers elsewhere to
become strong plants and mulch the ones with wide leaves. Other people
told me that I should not cut any suckers, after planting the bananas
into the ground, or, as they said, I won't have any harvest (banana
fruits) for a long time. Now I am confused. My climate (day and night,
summer and winter) temperature extremes are 8C to 27C (46F to 80F).
Could you please help me clarify this issue?

get rid of the crabgrass .. MIs july harvest.. lol .. i am in adrian ... i am hoping there is not landscape fabric under the mulch ... which might mean a watering issue snip off flowers.. and see what happens ... sometime new plants.. dont quite perform to standard... but there is always next year ... as it looks happy enough .... straight down pic are tough ... how tall is it??? are the new green shoots significantly outgrowing the old part of the plant... that might indicate its finally getting ESTABLISHED ... as you know.. we had a very extended cold spring in MI .. i have plants that were 4 to 6 weeks late .... and perhaps.. on some level.. yours is also behind the normal curve ... it otherwise looks happy.. just keep it properly watered in july/august ... ken

No. Never cut the top off. You will get get seeds soon. Flowers will come soon. So varieties don't get branch and they just grow tall. If you cut it, it will kill the plant growth and may kill the plant. You can use seed to grow more plants or share with friends. yes...please transplant them in new pot. What kind of citrus tree is this? If it is a Meyer lemon, this is its normal growth habit - bush-like. Depends on the cultivar, and what type of shape you're after. It doesn't appear to be rootstock growth, but scion growth to me. But, up to you. If you're after a more tree-like canopy, I would prune the branch off at the trunk. If not, I would leave it. Also, you can upload your photos to a photo sharing site, then copy and paste the HTML code right into the body of your message, thus embedding your photos right into your message. A little easier for the busy folks on this list to see your photos, than having to copy and paste the URL to each photo into a new browser window. Patty S.

google rejuvenation pruning of flowering shrubs.. to get a general feel for what you are doing ... done right.. its a 3 year process .. of which.. you already did year one.. and the result are those new suckers ... and yes.. it can be a bit ugly during the process ... but keep in mind.. the leaves are the food making machines.. and if you take out the whole big chunk left.. you will be relying on ONLY those leaves from the suckers .. and thats not a lot ... i think i would take one half of that Y .. after it flowers ... and probably that last old hunk... late next spring ... you CAN NOT KILL A LILAC BY PRUNING... i do it year around.. whenever the darn thing tees me off ... never heard the winter part before.. unless its specific to where ever you are????? in the alternative.. again.. noting you cant kill them.. and you dont care if you miss the flowers.. take it all out .... been there.. done that ... it really boils down to whether you might want to do it 'right' ... and look at a heapin mess for 2 more years... or just want to be done with it.. knowing you cant kill it anyway ... no theory necessary.. as to determining your state of mind.. flip a coin ... ken

Limiting each group to 3 plants , 1 mature , 1 smallish pup and 1 in between is Ideal for fruit production . For home gardens all the pups will produce fruit just fine the sword pups are favored as they tend to grow faster and once they get to a certain size there is very little if any difference.....

You can cut off the suckers, but I think each stalk will only fruit once in its lifetime, so if you never allow another big stalk to form, later you're not going to have bananas.
