I REALLY love the Maltese X, but one thing I REALLY hate about them is how ugly the foliage looks to me...especially lower on the plants. The foliage isn't all that attractive once the weather warms up period, but this is ugly

Calendula, Marigold, Cerinthe and Shizanthus. The Cypress Vine back near the lattice has barely grown an inch since planting out in mid May; they are about 1.5" tall....I got the same results last year too. Also planted a Heavenly Blue Morning Glory, but it's got issues too!

Blue Salvia seedling. Was planted not too long ago and look at all the continuing self-seeding Amaranthus 'Intense Purple! I just cleaned them out a week ago but there's no end :O

This Oregon Swallowtail landed on a weed right in front of me on the ground as I was walking back from taking these pics. I thought it was funny considering the hard time I had last year trying to get one to sit still long enough for a pic on the Echinacea. I finally did get one, but now their landing in my foot path LOL!!

my brother and his wife and little anna marie is up from oregon. it is so neat to see them, we went out picking nin we zhack yesterday, which is milkweed in indian, LOL
and it was fun, a little late, but fun!! of course when cooking that stuff ya have to be careful what ya pick and cooking it!! LOL we are starting to get more butterflies around here, i did notice that the homemade hummingbird feeders that we made have attracted them though!! LOL they do love that nector!! :')) ~Medo

Thank you Vera for clearing the "self-seeding Amaranthus" thing up! I thought I was going Loco when I planted it out and three days later there are babies all around it! Please explain more about that to me ! Other than that, when I grow up I am going to be a great gardener like you!

Terrific, Nancy. LOVE TBG. Such a gorgeous flower. I would not have the will power to cut the scapes either. I got Shores of Time this spring and I thought I would let just one flower bloom on that first scape so I could see what it looked like and then cut the scape. Nope! Didn't happen. My first seed was planted December 8, 1997. I planted it out March 4, 2008 when it was 14 inches tall. From my 12 tomato plants so far I have picked 33 pounds of tomatoes. Atlanta, Georgia. The early start sure made the difference. Now with the 90, and 92 degree weather and drought I am having blossom drop. As I planted my tomatoes at different times some are just starting to produce. My Roma that was planted later is full of tomatoes that are still green, with a few just getting ripe. I have two rain barrels. Hi all, I come by and check but don't read everything. I see Marci and Dee said hi, and maybe others have, too. My family's left. I don't know if I mentioned it, but they were successful in their attempt to set up swimming with the dolphins. I couldn't go to that, but did get to swim in the ocean. That's not something I can ordinarily do because of my illness and disabilities. I tried to post a couple of days ago, but everything that came out sounded upset and I didn't want to scare anyone. :) I've been ill the last few days. I talked to my doctor and she said it sounds like viral meningitis. That's the mild kind, not the kind that can leave a person brain damaged or dead, so its nothing to worry about, just uncomfortable - who needs more pain and fatigue. I might go in to her office tomorrow. Tropical Storm Celia went by here yesterday. She was a hurricane a few days ago, but diminished. There was thunder and lightning and heavy rain and winds, but nothing too damaging. Just enough excitement but not too much. I've got into anime for reasons I won't go into. I ordered Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Has anyone here seen it? Does anyone know or remember the song by Don McLean, "Chain Lightning?" I've always liked that song. Very dramatic. My internet relationship, which I talked about earlier, is still going strong - seven months now. I said that he is very unhappy and troubled, which is still true, but he has turned out to be also very caring, intelligent, and sweet. I hope we can continue to be friends for a long time, and I hope his situation improves for him. I've been reading about the get together next year. Remember, I'd like a video. :) I know that it will be a blast. It's nice to come here and have this group. You are such a loving bunch where all are welcome. There have been so many ups and downs, but people are always supportive and caring. Love to you, thanks for remembering me, and I hope everyone has a good day. I'm not spending as much time here as I was, which may change (who knows) but I won't get lost. It's been so frustrating to me when others that I care about quit posting and then I never know how they are doing. Also I've asked my son to let people here know if anything happens to me so that everyone won't be wondering. He knows how important this group has been to me. Amy

Happy Canada Day to our Canadian neighbors and happy Independence Day to everyone here in the United States. I have nothing in particular planned, Elery and I have been working hard renovating the kitchen. I just painted countertops and they can't be used for a couple of days. Ashley is in the hospital, the docs think it's her gallbladder. No, kidney stones. No, wait.....oh, they don't know. Ugh. Makayla is signed up for ballet camp and I've been driving her back and forth to Grand Rapids. Fireworks used to be fun until they started popping them off at every amusement park, ball game, car dealership opening, whatever. Now I don't care if I ever see them again, but Amanda is working on the 4th of July and I might end up with Bud and Makayla somewhere. Have fun, everyone! Annie

Garden Pooter, I'm trying to understand what it is that you would like explained?
I only planted these guys from ws just one time and last year and this year they've all just self-sowed upwards of around a gazillion per square inch since LOL! I've rated this one right up there with Nepeta mussinii as far as insane re-seeding...and that's BAD.

Garden Pooter, I had the same thing happen with my Amaranth 'Pygmy Torch'. I think there were a lot of ungerminated seeds mixed in with the sprouts, so after I planted them out, they just kept on coming.

Vera, that foliage IS pretty ugly, but since they would be in the back of the border, maybe it wouldn't be too noticeable.

Thanks Vera and Bonnie, I was confused about the self-sowing! I am so duuuh-ish about some things , I thought it was some kind of spontanious sprouting of seedlings once you plated them out. " I know , I know silly huh?

My pygmy dwarf aren't growing, most are getting buried as other plants grow and they don't. I think one or two hunks are maybe 6", the rest still an inch or two. Most of those I've forgotton about.

i don't think its such a duhhhh thing, LOL :')) big grinn, man, sometimes' i wonder about these plants!! 1//4 don't grow, the other 3/4 do, then the 1/8 do grow just when your about to throw em to the wind!! LOL so your like ehhhh???? LOL so its just nature, heck, go with it, have a "yard sale" and make some money!! LOL get them cheap little pots and have fun with it, that's what tabor wants to do, and it's gonna get some of that stuff out of my yard, so i'm happy!! LOL once ya see the green, ya will too, ummm literally!! LOL
i find new things about these plants all the time, they're like my kids, always keep me wondering!! LOL ~Medo
