Black Nigra Bamboo

New bamboo grower here and my question is regarding our most recent bamboo addition, a Phyllostachys nigra Black Bamboo. The first three weeks after I planted it it seemed fine. A couple of yellow leaves which I attributed to transplant shock. In the last week or so most of the existing leaves have begun to turn yellow. The plant is sending up new rhizomes and being watered daily and it is clearly growing. I don't think its pests and suspect it might want fertilizer. It is planted in part sun, gets great morning sun until about 1p.m. in the afternoon. We mixed potting soil with the reasonably good soil in the bed where it is planted and we have Fishpole Bamboo in the same general area. The Fishpole seems to be doing fine.

So should I fertilize? If so, with what? Can I use Miracle-Gro? I have never fertilized the bamboo before as there didn't seem to be a need.

Thanks.

Kathryn
