Bamboo for Michigan, z4

I would like to get some clumping bamboo that would survive the winters here in Michigan. I know there are a few varieties (like 2 or 3) but where can I get them?

I'd prefer bamboo that grows fast vertically so I can use it for garden stakes the next year. I know it will die to the ground and grow back each year, then return in the summer.

I think Fargesia (nitida or murielae) might not necessarily die back each winter but may take a while to get big enough for stakes. Plus, they may become so beautiful you won't want to cut them. :)

Grow one of the phyllostachys. Clumping bamboo won't fill your needs for the canes you want.

Mine is in my own potting mix which is a mixture of peat moss, pine mulch, compost, milorganite, and dried leaves, but one justification for the under-performance is because this was a solid root mass division which may be inhibiting it's growth. Once new culms harden off, I plan on pulling this stuff out, and making smaller divisions. I have many other species such as atrovaginata, dulcis, and parvifolia which are around the 1 inch mark this year. Propinqua beijing seems to be the quickest to size up even though I've had that one for only 1 year.
