cross-breeding and/or mutations

I wonder if there's any information available on the web, or in the forum member heads, about the subject of cross-breeding different bamboo species.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a giant bamboo that's winter resistant?

Because with normal grass it is fairly easy to breed new cultivars.

And I read somewhere that, with many plants, mutations of grow-tips can be forced by exposing them to colchicine. A poison derived from the plant "Colchicum Autumnale". (="herfsttijloos" in dutch)

Cuttings from the mutated grow-tips result in all kind of strange mutations.

An idea to work out may be?

Hope to see some interesting replies!

Regards,

Mike
