Will my bamboo stakes root?

I had a chance to cut down some nice bamboo 6-10' tall from a neighbors yard. I planned on using these as stakes in my tomato containers.... but before I do: Do I need to worry about them rooting and taking off? they were cut down last week so they are not dry yet.

Most bamboos do not root from stem cuttings, only some tropical ones.

You've heard way too many tall tales about the invasiveness of bamboo. If it were that easy to propagate, we wouldn't be paying the huge prices per pot that we do. Go ahead and stick them in the ground: they're dead and they can't hurt you anymore...

Anav, eventually everything breaks down, but IMO many years would pass before it started rotting..Treated bamboo is available, but the majority sold for plants is untreated. Do you know if your bamboo is treated? Walmart and Home Depot sells various sized green poles. The inside is metal, outside coated plastic..the green poles would last longest, where a standard wooden pole and/or trellis less time..many years..My vining Philos are held with wooden stakes, some over 10 years, none rotted..size makes a difference..many of my wooden stakes have a 2-3" thickness. Untreated metal 'may' rust after time.. but again, it'd take several years. I think water makes a difference, but that's a guess. Hard water 'might' rot wood/metal faster than regular lake water..Think our water is called soft water..LOL..opposite of hard would have to be soft, right? Toni

I'm not sure this is bamboo, I'm looking for some educated imput. These were found in a bed with castor bean and elephant ears. I kept all the seed pods cut off so I know it's not castor bean. There are some tree roots from a plant that was there (before we bought this house) but the growth comes off a big root, not a stand alone plant. Anything I find growing in my beds gets pulled out, not cut off. I can't think of anything else that could be there. It doesn't seem possible that a bamboo stake could start growing. I think its bad. I think with some plants its the beginning of root rot, but im not 100% But pretty roots are suppose to be white-ish

My bamboo stakes started throwing shoots and I’m observing to see if they actually root because if they do, I’m getting rid of them. I have enough bamboo and don’t wanna get bamboozled into anymore. Granted I live in a legit jungle and I have one of the tropical varieties afore mentioned.

ONE of many dry bamboo stakes (from WalMart)i used in my flower garden (to stake a maximillian subflower) rooted!

No, Bamboo is grass, and grass does not sprout from broken stems. Many Bamboos, in fact, require a good clump of roots to grow away from the mother plant.

You can propagate some clumping bamboo from stems/culms, but it takes more than putting a stick in the ground to get a viable plant.
