how big a pot should I use

Howdy - I bought my first banana plant last week, and hadn't thought I could expect fruit. However, it looks like people have had luck. So, I have these questions:

1. It's currently in a 5 gallon nursery pot and the "expert" there told me to keep it in there for the year. However, I can see roots above the soil line so I'd like to repot it. Should I move up slowly to a 20 gallon pot, or just go ahead and put it in now?

2. I'm using "Miracle Gro" potting soil for all my plants - it's light, so should it be OK?

3. I have what appears to be the standard dilemma - the nursery expert said I should place the plant in shade (but "bright light"), but everyone here seems to have better luck with direct sun. How about dappled shade?

4. Should I use a daily fertilizer (yesterday I gave it a heavy feeding of 30-10-10), and if so what type? Would more P give me a greater chance of getting bananas?

That's all for now - I appreciate any help you can give me.
