Enduring it? You make it sound as though it were a punishment to view your garden, when in fact it was quite a pleasure! You have a lovely home and garden, and I appreciate your taking the time to share it with us.

The wisteria on your porch is amazing! I wish I could grow it like that here.

What is the large blue flowering tree in the photo above your porch? It is absolutely gorgeous!

Oh my gosh Arif! This is a little bit of heaven on earth! I love it all. So much color!! (and any time I need help with my parakeets I know who to e-mail!).

I think your garden reflects your love of life!

Thanks, everyone! Seil -- The teachers loved the flowers, I was just sad I didn't have enough to make bouquets for all of the staff like secretary, music teacher, etc. -- I just did not have the blooms available this early after such a harsh winter so I decided I would just do each child's teacher. Flaming Peace sure put on a show! Ingrid -- thank you! I am just getting into roses and adore the old garden roses, even though I grow mostly new ones. I need some more room so I can have a special old garden rose corner! For now I will just have to visit the forum and enjoy looking at those! Madri -- Thanks, the flowers were a big hit at the school! Everyone wanted to smell them and couldn't believe they were all from my garden. I love seeing photos of roses from everywhere but it is special to see some pretty ones come from colder zones, and the spring is so special after being inside for months! Sara-Ann -- Thank you! I love seeing the other Michigan gardens on here, gives me some hope that I can keep my garden going! Jim -- Thanks, yes it was definitely worth the wait! I planted a whole second row late last season so I'm seeing a lot of these bloom for the first time and it is delightful! Martinca -- Thank you, yes it was quite the winter up here! Surprisingly I lost more during the 12/13 winter, but I think that was because I was a newbie and not planting properly for my zone. Kate -- Thanks! Yes, Dream Come True is an eye catcher, my husband even commented on that one! Peace is always a gorgeous rose, I agree! I have some more photos I took today of that bloom opening up and it is even prettier all full and pink tipped! Iris-gal -- Thank you! It is a pleasure to share! Carol -- Thank you! I agree about Kordes Perfecta, I could not believe that bloom form, and it held for at least two days! I planted my two Kordes Perfectas last year so this is my first time seeing them bloom as established (or at least second year) roses and they are really a treat. Well, thank you for your kind words. I am very blessed to have a lovely, lovely piece of property in a wonderful neighborhood with a perfect climate. We pinch ourselves every day that we are so fortunate. As far as intensively planting fruit trees - depends on the type of tree. With stone fruits, you can get away with one-hole planting if you're a good pruner. Not so much with citrus. They need their own "space", even if it's tight. If you're considering intensive planting with citrus, I would strongly recommend truly dwarfing rootstocks ('Flying Dragon' if you can find it, or at the least, Cuban Shaddock, which is what Four Winds puts most of their trees on). Boy, it is really hard to limit my trees to just the 5 favorites. Here is the list of what I really, really love in my yard, not in any top to bottom order: Seedless Kishu Mandarin Ponkan Mandarin California Honey Mandarin Page Mandarin (nothing beats it for juice) Moro Orange Tarocco Orange Wekiwa Tangelolo Valentine Pommelo hybrid Cocktail Pommelo hybrid Melogold/Oroblanco grapefruit hybrid Jan Boyce Avocado Reed Avocado Comice Pear Seckel Pear Any of my 3 different Fuji apples (Fuji, Red Fuji, Myra Fuji) Spice Zee Necatplum Artic Star Necatrine Royal Lee Cherry Any of my flat peento peaches (several varieties) Ronde de Bordeaux fig Panache fig Just to name a few :-) I would strongly urge you to join your local CRFG Chapter. Find out who is your real fruit tree guru in your chapter. See if you can find someone in the chapter that has done what you want to do. It really, really helps to have someone to pattern after, and have as a sounding board. You should have a fairly active chapter up in SF. In fact, there are some rather famous citrus hobbyist growers up in N. California that you might want to make sure you visit, if your CRFG chapter has any tours set up. Thanks gardenerme and jenn :-) Yes, Vista is a really great climate, very temperate, and for the most part we just miss the the marine layer since we're up at about 900 ft. elevation (up in the hills). And yes, the cherries will most certainly produce! They are fairly new low-chill varieties from Dave Wilson Nursery that were specifically developed for our area. If you search the Fruit & Orchard Forum, I think there's a thread that provides a report on them from the coastal S. California area that was a "two thumb's up". They are Minnie Royal and Royal Lee. They cross pollinate each other. I'm really excited about them, actually, and they are VERY happy in my climate. Pretty pleased! Wow! Great peppers and herbs. I don't know anything about vegetable gardening so I am of no help there. I tried vegetables for the first time this year so, of course, we had a drought and water restrictions. I had corn (with ears started, then it dried up), eggplant (killed by spider mites), cauliflower (never flowered), cherry tomatoes (grew five feet tall, low yield and fell prey to spider mites), hot peppers--explosive embers (they produced but I have to soap & neem them for white fly on a regular basis), and some bunching onions that stayed pretty small and won't stand up. We still can't water more than once a week, 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Good luck with your cukes. You have a great veggie garden. Julie in WPB

I absolutely adore your home and gardens! You are so lucky to have such lovely views through your windows, and such wonderful gardens to enjoy! The Wysteria arbor is spectacular! I really like how it's constructed! I can almost envision having one like that draped in climbing roses and Clematis!

Arif, your photos are fantastic! I can only dream of having beds filled with Hippeastrum bulbs in bloom, of course, but I can picture having my own gardens one day, filled with roses and other wonderful blooming perennials and spring flowering bulbs!

Most beautiful Arif! Everything is spectacular!

I am more ready for a field trip now than before! Who is with me? Sarmadsaeed is very fortunate to be able to visit and enjoy all the beauty in person! At least we get to drool over the photos.

Thank you for posting these beautiful pictures. These gardens and your home must provide you a great refuge from the world,a place of peace and tranquility. Nothing can replace that which I have lost in my life,but seeing the new flowers,as they are created provides me with great pleasure in a peaceful sort of way. I love to see your new blooms.You have been quite successful in your Hippeastrum breeding.Keep it up,for my sake,as well as your own.Enjoy your life.

Bro Arif, you inspires me!

I want to set up a garden bed full of Hipeastrums in my yard .... and you give me the confidence to do it! Now I am adding bulbs, and I know I will years for me to even reach a quarter of your size!

When I look at your gardens I am amazed and in awe. You truley have created a world of beauty around you. When I look at my small sun room with the dreary weather outside, and my plants in pots, they appear like birds in a cage when compared to your gardens.
Thank you for the wonderful view into your world. I look forward to the Greening here to be able to share mine with you.

Your yard is so colorful! I love those large pots atop the pillars, filled with blooms! What kind of tree is that? It's lovely!

It is very much a piece of paradise... just walking around and seeing everything up close would be very healing, indeed.
