When will my plum tree drop its leaves?

I have a peach and a plum tree that i planted about 2 months ago. They are each about 5-6 ft tall.
I asked in the orchard section yesterday about why my peach tree still has its leaves and why my neighbors peach tree dropped its leaves. I was told that younger trees keep thier leaves longer, although her tree has only been planted for 2 years.
The peach trees leaves are turning yellow/orange.
anyways, my plum tree also still has its leaves. when will they drop?
All the other trees(oak and hickory) in my yard have dropped thier leaves except the peach and plum. the plum has not dropped one single leaf!
The picture was taken yesterday morning and it still looks the same today.

when its darn well ready??? .. and ma nature puts it over the top ...

an history of late fertilizing.. that may have interrupted fall hardening off???? ... including fert' a lawn which the tree sits in the middle of????

there is a very active fruit forum ... should we fail you ...but you are more than welcome here.. anytime ...

all that said.. young trees do weird things.... i think i read that in the fruit forum the other day ....

No fertilizer at all. We we even had a freeze and the leaves
of my water oak and crape myrtles were krinkled and dried up and fell off.The peach and plum were not effected by it.
Even new light green leaf growth on the plum was not froze off.

Usually peaches drop leaves near or soon after first frost. The more vigorous the tree the later. If really water stressed leaf fall will be sooner. Less nitrogen which usually equates to less vigor and the leaves may fall sooner. Your young tree is moderately vigorous and should drop it's leaves soon after first frost. A long stretch of cool cloudy weather without a freeze will also promote leaf drop. Trees in my greenhouse where it never freezes drop leaves in Dec.

hello Johnathan J, for me (hot and dry here), I would leave it shaded for at least a week or until you see new growth, then slowly aclimate it to its spot. My carambola is just a seedling but here are my thoughts on repotting: give it a week or two (or three) when you see active growth, move it to a larger pot. I would not reccomend moving it to a huge pot just yet. This is my experience, one plant I moved to a huge pot after purchase (last fall) I had difficulties planting in the ground this spring. The extra soil broke away from the rootball, taking all the new delicate roots with it. My other experience is overpotting and rot. This last winter another newly purchased plant was placed in a huge pot (it was going to stay potted). As winter progressed and cool spring arrived, I started watering more. The soil at the top of the pot would dry before the soil at the bottom. Before too long the soil smelled foul and the roots rotted. This is not the case with all plants, my guavas and solanums have such dense root systems, they jumped a pot size. good luck, -Ethan

We really do need to see photos to determine what is going on, otherwise we are just guessing and you then may be following advice that is not appropriate or could even prove harmful. FWIW, horticultural oil is NOT a suggested treatment for borers.......if that is what you have. Because the larvae tunnels (bores) into the wood of the tree, any sort of topical approach has to be carefully considered and timed to have any effect. The bugs are not inside the bark....they are inside the tree and it often requires a systemic (seldom recommended for edibles) to ensure effective control. And the appearance of sap - aka gummosis - can arise from a multitude of conditions, not all of them serious or requiring treatment. Photos, please!!

The peach is days away. When I had fruit trees in the past, my peaches rarely colored much, at most like yours, then within a few days - GONE. I bet the plum will do the same.

I have fruit trees with brown, dead leaves clinging to the branches after our early cold. These are mature trees, and I blame the weather.
