I think it would be quite a stretch to assume that apples grown from seed, even from dwarf rootstock apples if that were the case, could be expected to be dwarfing at all. Apples from seed, even from known parentage, are as similar as Larry, Moe, and Curly. All are the same species for certain, and yet each is unique. It's possible you could luck out with some dwarfing apples, but I don't think you would know it at this early stage in development, and I think it's equally possible that the shorter bushier seedlings have just been nipped by deer or rodents, or have some disease or are short on water, or whatever, which could have stunted their growth, unless you have controlled each seedling exactly the same since inception. Truly, I think the only way to know what you'll end up with is to wait 10 years and see what you end up with! I would bet that even professional apple breeders would agree with me.

Wallas are a little more top shaped, longer from neck to roots than storage onions. Copras are much more globe shaped and have a darker outer skin color. Also if you slice a walla, the rings are thick, copras have tight, narrow rings. I jokingly add that usually in my field, the wallas are the ones that are often bolting..... 'Flying Dragon', which is the contorted form of Poncirus trifoliata, is the only dwarfing rootstock for citrus. It produces a smaller tree than normal. Other rootstocks may cause a bit of variation in how vigorously the tree grows, but there really is no such thing as a semi-dwarf. There is confusion over the term 'standard'. This can either mean it grows at the standard rate and to the normal size, or it can mean the tree has been grafted high up on a tall rootstock to produce a definite trunk with growth near the top. Nurseries then add to the confusion by describing a tree that has been grafted lower down as dwarf or semi-dwarf. All it really means is the tree will branch lower down, but not that it will grow more slowly or finally form a smaller tree. If you want a small tree and the rootstock is Flying Dragon, then buy it - ignore anything else on the label about dwarf or semi-dwarf.

There are several different varieties of so-called "wild cucumbers" and they look different. But without it going to the blooming stage I don't know that you can tell for sure. Volunteers from previous crops, mulches, and compost are sure possibilities but I'd suspect "bird transport" from the patch behind the house and just pull it. Use the space for something that is a sure thing. Dave
