Not wintersown, but here is one of my over-wintered Geranium that got frost bit and set back. Do you see the marigold seedlings peeking out? I had a bunch left in my hand after I sowed them and tossed the rest out the door.

Apparently some landed in the Geranium lol! I'll be moving them out tomorrow :)

Its so nice to have a place to go where others share your pain. I started tomatoes from seeds for the first time ever, way back in February. Needless to say, I'll never make that mistake again! They are blooming in their pots as they await the day they can finally be planted in the garden. I don't even feel comfortable giving any away because I'm so afraid they won't do well. I eagerly awaited that magical date May 15, supposedly, and then one thing after another prevented me from planting them out. Argh. I know it's my own fault, but knowing that doesn't make it any less frustrating!

Lou:Congratulation:I was Trading Marseilles vs black with you for LSU,gold,2 years Ago. Today I have 8 growing fruits on my young tree. I can see it will be one of my best figs,and the best,healthiest white, I have. White figs are less good for Cold climate,but this one is a winner. I know you also had good results with Marseilles vs black. All in all a very good trade.

Howdy Neighbors! Thought I'd pop in from Oklahoma to see how y'all are doing over there. From ceresone's comments, I gather that some of y'all are not having a lot of rain? Well, you can have ours if you can figure out how to get it from here to there. I dearly wish we could send you the rain that is tormenting our state. It is flooding all over the place and many Oklahoma gardeners are deeply depressed as the continuing rain has wiped out many veggie gardens and is making normal gardening chores impossible to accomplish. While the rain has been beneficial in many ways....like refilling the aquifers after the 2005-2006 drought and, of course, refilling ponds and causing trees, shrubs, groundcovers, etc. to grow like crazy.....it has been harmful in others, including the flooding of agricultural fields, loss of crops, widespread fungal and bacterial disease, etc. etc. After the big wildfires of '05-'06, we all swore we wouldn't whine about too much rain ever again, but we've already had as much rain here in Love County as what we get in an average year (over 30" and more rain is falling right now), and the Red River is flooding. Vickie, I had never heard of the Rainbow people. How fascinating that some hippies are still around. When I was a child in the 1960s, we had hippies living in a local park near our house in Fort Worth. They were very peaceable and quiet, but law enforcement ran them off....saying public parks were not living places. And, I didn't know you had bears....but I haven't visited this forum in a long time. I am not terribly afraid of wildlife (we have panthers and mountain lions pass through our property occasionally and they DO scare me a bit, especially when they roar, growl or snarl at me) but I think I would lose it if I ever walked outside and saw a bear! In southern Oklahoma the plums and peaches have been wonderful, having barely squeaked by and survived the late freezes. The further north you go in Oklahoma, the greater the losses of fruit to those same late freezes in April. A lot of gardeners are having trouble with their tomato plants. Too much rain is waterlogging roots, even in normally well-drained soil, foliar diseases are much more prevalent than usual, and the darned green tomatoes just won't ripen for many people due to the constant clouds and a lack of sunshine all this growing season. My tomatoes are doing better than most, but I am very far south and may have had a bit more sun than most. Ceresone, I hope you get the rain you are praying for. Your garden sounds terrific, though, in spite of all the weather and wildlife. It was a great onion year here for us since they like all the moisture. Dawn

Hi Kim, I'm glad you liked the maple syrup. I was thinking it might be a bit unusual down your way. I'm going to take a stab at the trivia(I did not google) and say that it is a yes. Though I think I remember a story about tomatoes and someone eating one in the early 1800's to prove he would not die. Speaking of tomatoes. A very odd thing happened to me other other day. I sent Maryanne a link to the story(on an unmentionable site), but maybe you all would enjoy it too. I got home from work this evening, and I went to sit down to eat and see that tomato seeds from Yugoslavia(can't remember which new part) are on the table. A gentleman originally from there that works with my husband went back for a visit. My husband asked him to bring back tomatoes for me in the store pkgs. from there. So I got 3 packs of St. Pierre, a French tomato?(if you about this tomato, please give me some info,) in the original pkgs. from there. Ok, that is not that weird. Hold on it does get wierder. Now I have just picked up these pkgs., and I'm examining the foreign words, and the door bell rings. My husband answers and then he is yelling for me, and I'm annoyed because I just want to look and eat! There is a guy at the door wanting to know where we purchased our new apple tree and how much did it cost.(Our old one died in the local freak October snow storm.) It is grafted with a few antique varieties. My husband doesn't remember the mail order company. I tell him and then he is asking if I have a catalog, so I get up and go look for one, and I finally got to the door. There are actually 2 men, one about 40, one about 70. The younger man is apologizing for the older man who can't speak much English. The older man is pointing at the apple pictures saying with a thick accent, "Yes, yes." as if to say that he does want a tree like mine. He must of made the younger guy stop. My husband say to the younger man, "Where is he from? Yugoslavia?" To which the older man says one of the new parts of Yugoslavia. Then I say, "I just got tomato seed from there!" The older man says, "tomatoes?". Then the young man says, "Don't get him started on tomatoes." I went back in the house and got a pack of the St. Pierres, and hand it to the older man. He smiled and said the word Paradajz(tomato?) from the pkg. The younger guy says the older man has a huge vegetable garden. I then point telling the older man I have a garden in the back. He looked like a happy little kid, and just starts heading back! So we took a garden tour. We came back out front and the younger man thanked us and told the older man to give the seed pkg. back to me. I told him no, to keep it. Then they left. When we got back inside, my husband looks at me and says, "How weird was that? What are the chance of that happening?" Have a good night everyone, Remy

v1rtu0s1ty....I'll save seeds, but not from this round. These will get cut back for re-bloom :) Hey, I got a few white flowering ones too. Want some?

Busylizzy....Every spring I get somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 self-sown seedlings and those that aren't thinned out are full sized plants the following spring. Usually by late summer the newbies are blooming for the 2nd time on 8-10" clumps. Here's how....IF you want to thicken up a small blooming clump....go ahead and cut them back by half once the bloom phase is mostly done and BEFORE the seed pods mature (probably won't matter but they'll have more energy). Several more new shoots should emerge from the center :) I cut all mine back by half a few times a year.

Vera I love the blue flax I wish mine would of mad eit this year but they didn't luckily the person I traded with sent a ton of seed so I will be trying it again next year. Your pics give me hope that maybe someday they will make it. Thanks love the pics.

Your Maltese Cross is so beautiful! I planted some this year and I hope mine looks that good in a couple years' time.

Thanks! This is about the only time of the year I think the Maltese Cross look good. In my garden the bottom halves get pretty ragged and ugly. This one HAS to have something planted below. After the blooms start fading I also cut them back by half.

That is Lavender and yes, Blue Flax goes to seed. Both of these re-seed like no tomorrow here too :)

I seem to recall someone calling you the "Queen of Blue Flax" some time ago, Vera. They're sure right about that!

My Poppies that survived to bloom are pathetically face down in the mud. If they were standing they'd still only be about 10" tall. Guess they didn't get enough sun among the Iris and couldn't fight their way through the clay.

Next year they get sown in cups and planted out when tiny.

I love the Gaillardia aristata 'Burgundy'...unfortunately the groundhogs here love all colors of Gaillardia. Last year I had some that were like yellow rays with burgundy center. Sigh.

That Kohlrabi is a gorgeous color. What a flower that color would make.

Thanks for sharing your flowers...I always feel better after seeing all your beauties.
