question about photobucket?

Last year photobucket had a bad virus and I was just wondering did they ever get the problem taken care of. I stopped using it when I got the awful virus dh had to reload the whole computer. I wanna share some photos and phototbucket is the only site that I know how to use. Thanks

I never got the virus last year that photo bucket had but I also have an antivirus on my computer. I use avast which is a free antivirus. It takes less resources on your computer to run avast than per say nortons mcaffee and avg.

In order to be infected with a virus you will first have to execute them. In other words it is just like installing software on your computer you can not use the software till it is installed. Same with a virus until you install it or execute the virus it is harmless. Looking at pictures clicking on links that you are not aware of what source they come from is all ways to execute a virus.

Just use a good reputable antivirus software and you should be ok and don't click on links that you do not know where they came from. Don't accept email from people trying to send you exe's as an attatchment or pictures. Facebook has alot of viruses and they are some boogers also.

We have always had AVG I think this is advast and it is always on.
I don't remember clicking any of the ads. But after visiting photobucket my computer starting acting funny and weird so we did the scan and there were 2 big viruses they may not of been active fully but it was enough to be a pain in the butt computer wise. Ever since I stayed off of photobucket and no virus.

I've been using Flickr lately. I don't have many hosta photos up yet, though. Most of mine are still at Photobucket. I'm annoyed by the way Photobucket chokes on the use of the single quote around the cultivar name in a photo title. If I write 'Francee' it comes out \'Francee\' I also got fed up with the way Photobucket would include a link to its home page in your image code, instead of a link back to your own photo, so that people could read the comments or see larger sizes. Hear, hear Lezro! I have used IrfanView (free download) for several years. In fact I prefer it. I learned the basics in an afternoon. I have Photoshop Elements and occassionaly use it to do some cloning, which IrfanView doesn't provide. It's an excellent program but the learning curve is fairly steep and it is slower. IrfanView bypasses Windows registry which is part of the reason it is so speedy, even with images from a 5 megapixel camera. When you first open (or drag and drop) your image you will only see a small portion (unless you have changed the default view). I click on the magnifying glass with a minus sign to zoom out to see what to crop. Sometimes what I am wanting is small enuf that resizing isn't necessary so little quality is lost (using 95 compression). I don't remember what the default compression setting (maybe 80). I choose my own depending on the image. If the cropped image is still too big for the screen click on Image in the menu and choose Resize/Resample, where you can instantly resize to make your image screen size. And of course you lose quality. That's where sharpening is useful. I have learned Not to fill my camera's LCD screen with the desired image. It loses far too much quality when down-sized and compressed. I am happy to help anyone with IrfanView. Drop me an email. If the file is a jpeg then it can be printed just about anywhere and if it is on your photbucket account it is a jpeg. Since you say the pictire was on a floppy that tells me that the picture is about 1MP. The best you'll get ,without interpolating, will be a 4x6. Any larger and it will be very pixelated, some people don't mind and if it's all you got then it's all you got. If you want to get a larger print you will have to get it to the 300dpi as rick mentioned earlier. Thank you for all the help and suggestions, everyone. "you have too much stuff and your pictures are getting too much traffic". I'm guessing you're probably posting a lot of pictures lately? johnmari - Like susieq07, I have never received that email before. I have had PhotoBucket for almost 3 years. Just last week, I went through and cleaned my albums up a bit and deleted several images. Furthermore, I have not been on this board, or the other board I frequent, very often lately. So, I have posted very few photos in the last month. Makes me wonder if I my photos are getting a lot of traffic for some reason. terriks - I do have my settings on Private, but cannot remember if that box is checked. I'll go take a look. I also want to change a few other settings. johnmari - How do I put the photos back on my hard drive, or is there someway to transfer them to a CD? I really don't want to join another file sharing site.

I use webshots.com without a problem. I actually like it better than photo bucket.After uploaded and you click on the photo, just click on second icon on the left of the download button under the photo.Click on a number for the size of the photo, then copy/paste the middle box of html. and use the img src code and this address to post here.

I was just given the BEST instructions on how to post photos and it is so simple. It uses Imageshack and you don't have to join up or make an account. If you are interested let me know and I can e-mail you the instructions....they were e-mailed to me by a friend....I was so thrilled that it was so simple I am looking for an excuse to post more pics. :)

I got the photobucket virus last year too. And, yes, the computer had antivirus software (Norton), malwarebytes, firewall...at the time. I got it anyway.
