Sure, I remember about your Appleblossom. As I recall, Appleblossom is one I heard that is harder to get selfed successfully. I am eager to see how it comes out for you too.

I have just gone through the full year of taking care of Hippis. I will post my result soon when I get the chance to do it in the coming week or two.

I have only one year seedling at the moment. Maybe, I will get luck to see one or two of offsets bloom in another year. Great Job! Thanks for sharing and the encouragement that comes with it to know I have only a year or two to wait.

I needed this reward after all the trouble with the bulb fly. This past fall I took every bulb I have (this is my original eight purchased bulbs and hundreds of seedlings) and washed the soil off completely. I separated each bulb so they were all singles and inspected them and soaked them in huge buckets of water with bleach to try to kill any bulb flies that might have gotten in during the summer outside.

This was backbreaking work and took the whole day. I repotted every one of them and still found the maggots in some containers during the winter and an adult NBF on the windowsill in January.

I mean I looked carefully at each bulb with the roots completely cleaned and didn't see anything that looked like a hole. Either the larva are microscopically small (and not killed by a soak in bleach water) or it was in the bags of potting soil I re-potted them with. I've read about the hot water treatment, but it's just not feasible for this many bulbs.

I may never take them outside again. It's just too much work going through all that plus the lugging all those pots in and out.

Anyway - thanks again and I'll post the next ones that bloom in the next few weeks.

Pots with bulbs that are [to become] transferred to outdoors or in the greenhouse, even - should be sprayed, onto the surface of the substrate, with a long-lasting insecticidal agent. for safety reasons in APRIL.
The big narcissus bulb fly might hatch as early as in this month, and the female will deposit its eggs, one single egg per bulb and beside the bulb, into the substrate respectively, once the temperatures exceed 19°Celsius.

Hans what would be an example of a long lasting insecticidal? Is there something that would continue to work in the pot even though it is out in the rain/elements?

Do not ever expose potted Knight star lilies to water from above! You might eventually LOSE them.
You can water once, from above (not rinsing the bulb core though) with Imidaclopride!

Really? What happens to make you lose them? I've had my original collection of purchased bulbs (before the seedlings started in 2007) for around 10 years.

I've always taken the pots out in the summer and they stay outside from the middle of May until the middle of October. They get rained on a lot and when it isn't rain, it's me watering them with the garden hose. Aside from the narcissus bulb fly problem, they all are very healthy, large and firm with a multitude of nice white roots and they bloom usually twice a year.

Are yours always sheltered from the rain, and the only water they get is from you watering them from below?

You are LUKKY as that you did not experience what I did. Water from above serves to spread the tarsonemid mites all over the bulb, and later in the season, when temperature have droipped, then the bulbs would be fatally superinfected by red blotch and transformed into red rotten pulp.
