If the bulbs look firm, smooth and healthy then I would not necessaily throw them out. Particularly not the specimens of H.papilio. Those, should, in the meantime, have produced several offsets (haven't they?!)

I guess that your bulbs had been sitting in smaller containers. Thus the little volume of substrate had been worn-out after two seasons and you should have replanted them.
Next, I read that you tried fertilizer and I am tempted to ask back "What does this term mean?" - or, frankly, fertilizer has not to be tried, it has to be applied frequently in lower doses - this has maximum effect.

Now, replant into bigger containers as usual.
Put a thiock layer of drainage material on the biottom of the container. More than 1 inch.
Use moist coco fiber substrate or high quality pot soil (which does not contain any unsufficiently decomposed matters like wood- and bark pieces)
Pluck and wash all loose (dead) material (old scales and dried roots away from your bulbs. Take care tpo keep the upper part of the bulb dry - no water into the "heart" of the plant
Replant cautiously - do not bend the roots.
Water well once from above (but again, keep te heart of the plant dry).
Place them at your best (bright) windowsill.
A body of the central heating under the windowsill is advantageous since growth of roots is supported in warm substrate (up to 26°C).
Let the substrate become almost dry again.
From then on water exclusively from below into the saucer.
Use lukewarm water to which you have added, yes, always 0.3 to 0.4 g/L of a well balanced NPK fetilizer. For example 1 to 1.5 mL of a 6-3-6 liquid fertilizer.
Water every 2nd day. The volumes of water the plant needs vary considerably dependent on the weather and on the total area of evaporating leaves.
Use a good volume of water which is still readily absorbed by the substrate layer. The uppermost inch of substrate should become and remain completly DRY. If dark spots appear on the surface then the lower substrate volume has already become too wet.
Encourage your bulbs to produce lots of leaves not just 4 or so. Numeros leaves will build upo a good, thick bulb stuffed with storage products, and then you will get flowers the next year. How can you expect flowers from an exhausted bulb?

..Thank you so much for your response...I am going to try re-potting them...I haven't done that for awhile. The bulbs are all firm and healthy...and I have tons of beautiful leaves. I did notice in at least one pot I have LOTS of offsets....too much for one pot maybe (it is a large pot). I thought the info I read on Amaryllis said they needed to be potbound to blossom...no?? Thanks again for the info.

Papilio seems to like to be potbound to blossom, but all the hybrids seem to not follow, and just blossom whenever.

Good advice, as always, from Hans... I would re-pot the bulbs, making sure to use a soil that will drain well and pots that will do the same. I prefer unglazed clay, myself.

I'm not sure if this will help you at all, but... I have had my Minerva bulb for about 7 or 8 years... I have never forced a dormancy on it, but rather have treated it like any of my other houseplants, feeding and watering as needed... I keep it in an east window, and it has bloomed reliably for me, every year but one. I think it needed some rest, or possibly to acclimate itself to a new house. Now that it's got some years on it, it is quite huge... the leaves are about 3 feet in length, green and healthy. The bulb is green and firm, and probably about the size of a softball! Last summer, it grew a nice offset, its first. I re-pot it every few years, giving it fresh soil and a slightly larger pot... although, I did let it fill in its last pot a bit too much! It was quite potbound by the time I replanted it!

There's no point to my story, really... other than the fact that older bulbs will definitely bloom, so don't give up on them! I don't worry about whether or not I'll get flowers every year... I just try to keep my bulbs happy and healthy, and they reward me with blooms to let me know that I'm feeding and caring for them properly!

I have one amaryllis bulb that my mom gave me two years ago. It is getting ready to bloom again, as it has for the last two years. I'm pretty sure the bulb has an offset, since it started growing another, smaller, set of leaves. If I repot it this year after it blooms, am I supposed to remove the offset and pot it separately, like I would with my daffodils and tulips?

You can separate mother and daughter bulb if you like... as long as the offset has it's own healthy root system. Or, you can leave them together for a full pot of blooms when the offset decides to bloom, too.

My largest bulb produced an offset last summer, and I've left them together. I will probably leave them growing as a group until the cluster shows signs that it's time for a little breathing room.

Thanks. I think my offset should be ready to bloom next year, as this is already it's 2nd year. I noticed as soon as the bud came up on the mother bulb that it is much larger than last year's, so I'm very excited about the blooms it should produce.

If you keep the mother bulb and her babies together, you'll eventually have a nice full pot of blooms when flowering season rolls around! The offset on my large bulb is only a year old, so I have some time to wait... but I can just imagine how pretty it will look with that many scapes growing and so many flowers blooming at once!

I thought about separating mom and baby, but I just can't bring myself to cut the baby from the mother bulb! They seem happy together, and aren't crowded in their pot... so I decided to leave them as a family!

If your bulb's baby is two years old already, it shouldn't be long before the baby produces its own flowers when the mother bulb blooms! It'll be very exciting!

I love to keep the family togather, but provide them a bigger home. My younge Papillio who has yet to bloom for the first time has a ring of 10 babies and is happy in its 14 inches pot.
