Our camera is a bit outdated by today's technological standards... but it's a Polaroid, PDC 2300 Z.

We'll be in the market for a new camera soon... we're getting another Polaroid. This one does everything I want it to do, and the view shows a picture you can actually see, and not some microscopic dot! It has zoom, and all the regular functions of a good digital camera.

I don't really know what to recommend... there are so many decent ones on the market now... I want something easy to operate, easy to understand, and one that takes clear photos that I can easily take off the card and upload to my computer. My Polaroid does all that, and more.

I suppose a consideration would be what you want to spend on a new camera... I wish I could be of more help... all I can tell you is that I like my Polaroid, so you could look at those while shopping, maybe... :-)

Cindee-- really the compact cameras out there have all really increased in quality. I prefer Canon (that's who makes my professional gear) and my wife has a compact one made by Nikon-- the Canon is way more versatile but wee bit heavy on the price end-- but the Nikon can hold its own and at around 70. My suggestion is to visit Best Buy or similar stores and play. I love to play! I have a FujiFilm, too-- has lasted me ages and still goes strong-- sorry to hear yours died. All the compact cameras these days have excellent macro capability, too-- which would be perfect for getting close-ups of orchid lips ;oD

Cindee I use a Cannon PowerShot A510. It might not have been my first choice, but I had no choice when I was taking photos with my old "film" camera in Alaska and it got too misty watching icebergs calve. I've been happy with it. As Jodi says, the instruction manual is like a small phone book, but with some tips from Ryan (CO) the photos and what I can do with exposure have resulted in some good photos. It also has a ring that allows you to swap out lenses, etc. I've had it 4 years and it's still going strong. There's one pixel that's "out" and shows red. The display on the back is about 1x2 inches...big enough for me to see. Good luck and sorry about the additional unexpected expense.

I'm on my fourth Olympus camera. Not because they break, but due to chasing better technology.

But seriously... I agree with Rocky Mt. Ryan... go to Best Buy or a store near you and check them all out. Ask some questions, or get more opinions, etc... and when you're ready to buy, check out TigerDirect and other places that offer brand names for decent prices.

Cindee buddy I use a newly bought Fuji Finepix J10 Easy to use and takes great pix for the cost.I dont think it's the BEST camera out there.You just consider the cost and quality you like and go with that to the store and get yourself something affordable and functional.You take such good pix anyways and always have such handsome subjects.Why fret the camera make/model :)

Thanks everyone...I will have to look around some, I guess. The new job is a blast, how could it not be when I am working with PLANT PEOPLE who love the environment and nature??? I take a different blooming Amaryllis in each week. Last week was Magic Green, This week was Vera...next week will prob be Sumatra. They all love the color in our tiny space and are fascinated to listen to me go on about pollination etc.

Cindee-- what is your job?

Ryan, right now it is just temp doing computer/invoice/office work with a company that maintains the health of lakes within communities. Manmade or natural lakes. They control invasive plants/algae with environ safe chems, fish and native plants. It's fun, and the people are great! Iknow the couple I am working with through the Florida Gardening Forum.

That's great Cindee, I'll bet you learn quite a bit that can translate into a backyard pond. And its always a good thing to actually enjoy your job!

I am using Fuji Fine Pix S5500 and am quite happy with it. Although my youngest grand daughter teases me that her mobile phone camera is superior to this one.

I'm really glad that you like your job, Cindee! That's always a huge plus! And, who knows where it might lead in the future?!

My kids all use their camera phones, but to be honest, my old eyes can't really see those small pictures very well. My son just sent me a photo through his phone the other day... it's of his girlfriend's new engagement ring that he gave her! So, I guess she's not his girlfriend anymore, but his fiance! The point is... I could barely make out the diamond, which is 1 carat in size, from the cell phone picture!

As I get older, I need a camera that shows a bit larger of a picture!

Cindee...I used and still am using a Sony Cybershot "Point and Shoot" from Walmart. Works fine for me. It's color is pink by the way. :-)
