I would say that a big one would be bamboo myths and misconceptions. There needs to be some enlightenment to help people understand that all species of bamboo are not invasive weeds. You could also show how even the invasive ones can be controlled. Another issue you could tackle is the importation of bamboo.

I second the idea of bamboo as a renewable resource, particularly in comparison to wood. It's not much used in in the U.S., but it has been used extensively in many other parts of the world and there is a wealth of info out there. If you decide to do this, I could email you some references to books and give you some web site links that will be helpful. This topic would easily lend itself to assessment and analysis, and would be a unique subject that would be interesting to your teacher because there is so little info people here are exposed to about this material other than the urban myths of supernatural invasiveness.

Bamboo is used for food (bamboo shoots), construction, ornament, weaponry.

Many temples in Asia including the Petronas Towers in Malaysia are designed based on the appearance of newly shooting bamboo. I'm sure it has religious/spiritual signficance.

Any topic can be good if it is interesting.

They are also using it to make a cotton-like fabric. Saw a t-shirt recently made out of bamboo fibers. Supposed to be silk-like in texture, but incredibly durable.
