We have hardy bamboo surrounding our home on three sides (I live in the city and it's a GREAT privacy fence). It grows 10-12 feet high and shoots quickly. It spreads quickly and the new shoots are edible and make a great Asian soup. The stalks are thinner than some varieties I've seen. I don't know what kind they are (they came with the house), but I am in Maryland and have read that bamboo is indigenous to this region (though it was clear cut when the land was settled by farmers and there isn't much around anymore). I'm new to this site and just bought a home last summer. I'm interested in veggies and edible landscaping. Perhaps we can organize a trade.
