Bent Scapes

KayLakeMan

Can anyone enlighten me as to why many of the scapes on my plants have 'keeled' over at various time this year?

At various times this year, one plant or another has had the flower scape end up horizontal, bending right at the juncture with the bulb. In two extreme cases, the scapes partially tore from the bulb.

At first I thought it was the weight of the blooms at the top of 2(+) tall stems, but it has also recently happened to scapes with just seed pods.

I think it could be that more water is needed (cells lose their turgidity) and watering from below sometimes doesn't allow me to determine if enough water has been delivered/taken up. The plant is ok, but the bulb does rock a bit in the loose and dry soil (which could be another reason).

Has anyone experienced this issue and if so, any comments?
