Comments (9)Look for female amd male flowers as shown in pic. Pic. of female and male flower of bittermelon. I could not capture the female flower with fruit.Look for the flower with fruit. This one is a female flower. One without a fruit is male flower. I am posting male and female flowers of Zuccini just for illustration to distinguish male and female flowers. Pic. of Zucchini flowers. Another problem may be absence of pollinators. In this case you may hand pollinate.Pick the male flower (one without small fruit) and transfer the pollon to the near by female flower rubbing flowers face to face....See MoreWill Bitter Melon make other plants Bitter?
Comments (12)http://www.evergreenseeds.com/anluexlo.html Angled luffa can be found pretty easily online. I believe this is probably the strain that I have, and they don't seem to ever get bitter unless they get over 30 inches in length for me. Each plant also produces about 200 fruits per year so you don't have to plant that many. You just have to plant early up north due to a cooler season. Here's a picture of one of mine from a couple days ago....See Morehelp with growing bitter melon
Comments (6)Thank you both for information. I am very excited that my plants have grown to seedling size. My climate is a little cooler than both your zones. We have therefore made an outside growing area that is trellised about four feet tall and protected. to keep the temperature up to the 85 degrees (or 29 celseus in this country)Can you tell me how much water the plants like. So far I have kept the sprouting seeds very wet in the green house, now planted out am not sure if I am over watering? Again with thanks ozykate...See MoreBitter Melon roots is drying out
