Red Lion x Susan is blooming

This cross has taken 4 years to bloom and I am not disappointed at all! It's hard describe the color, it is lighter red than Red Lion and has a bit of a salmon hue to it.

I have several other seedlings from this cross and Red Lion x Appleblossom seedlings that will bloom in the next couple weeks, I will post photos of those when they bloom.

Very nice. The bloom shape also reminds me of Susan.

I agree with palmcoastgardener. It inherited Susan's nice flower shape. Congratulations giantslug! It is beautiful.

Please do post the pics of the other seedling's flowers. I wonder how many of them will be pink. How many seedlings did you grow out of this cross?

I harvested some seeds of Lovely Garden(red) X Pink Diamond, hoping to maybe produce a pink flowered "klister". It seems like red dominates in these kind of crosses.

I really am no expert, just from my observations of pics shared here. Maybe Lora can give us more info.

I see that you live in Zone 4/5. What do you do with the seedlings during winter time?

Yeah they are pretty crowded. The seedling bulbs are about the size of peas now and have just started to push against each other in the pot. I am going to separate them before I bring them out in the summer.

Very pretty results! Congratulations to both of you!!! For those who do not know yet...Blossom Peacock is a Japanese hybrid bred by Miyake Nurseries, registered in 1997. It is one of my very favorite doubles for it's Lotus like flowers. A definite must have in ones collection. Like most flowers that "blush", intensity of it's flower's colors is very dependent on light exposure and temperature. Here is one of my Blossom Peacocks that bloomed in a cold January.

Hey Giant Slug it's very sweet to see your blooms! It looks like a nice flower! As a fellow Minnesotan I'd also like to hear your methods for growing seedlings and hippeastrum in general. Congradulations!!!

This is very pretty. I think I like it a bit better then Susan also. The color is more interesting, and it does have a lovely shape!

I have just planted my very first "floated" seedlings which are Faro crosses(some with Pink Surprise, and others have lost their tags) so a long wait for me!

Hi again. I have 15 surviving seedlings that are mixed Red Lion x Susan
and Red Lion x Appleblossom. I had a labeling accident in their second year of growth (the tags on the pots that the seedlings were in wore off and disappeared outside). I appreciate opinions on the parentage of my hybrids because I'm just guessing!
It took me three years to get the hang of growing Amaryllis, and I lost many of my seedlings and my a few of my boughten bulbs to bulb rot in the process. I found out that the regular potting soil I was using held too much moisture and rotted the bulbs. I use quartzite (sold as chicken grit), turface (When i can find it), and perlite mixed with potting mix to give them better drainage. I also am very conservative with watering after repotting, during cool weather, and when they are indoors. I have not had any rot since!
I started my seedlings in community pots and kept them there for almost 2 growing seasons, then I divided them into their own individual pots. I grow them under flourescent lights most of the winter.
I grow my amaryllis outside all summer. I bring them inside in fall when there are frosts but keep them out in the sun as long as I can until it stays cold out. After I bring them in for good in late fall I put them in my root cellar and they go dormant after about a month. I wake them up and repot them if needed in mid February, then grow them under my HPS light until May when I put them back outside.
