If I'm seeing correctly,there are 2 stigma and at least 7 anthers? That is one messed up plant! Are the parts sort of fused together & flattened? It -almost- looks like it tried to be a double and got real confused along the way:( I've not seen a virus do this type of damage. Mosaic makes a odd sort of streaking in the leaves and patches or streaks of missing color in the petals. I am wondering about some type of chemical damage,perhaps the bulb was treated before shipping?
As for the other pic,it is not Minerva. I'm betting it's a random seedling,same as I got :( Lora

You're pretty close. There are 10 antlers and 2 stigma and one stigma near the back that fused with a flower pedal.

The flower next to it has 6 pedals, the 'mutant' has 9 pedals. The other two flowers on the scape were normal. And the flowers on the first scape were also normal. The scape with the mutant flower is going to have five blooms on it all together.

The Apple Blossom is the one I think had some weird disease, because it looked like you were looking at it through a piece of wavy glass. That one got tossed out real fast. I've seen that wavy texture in house plant books and I know it's not a good thing.

Yeah, I got an ID on the weeds. I'll have to remember to update that entry with the names. I think I also got a random when I bought my Apple Blossom, because it didn't look anything like the pic on the box. The color was real faint. It looked like it was blushing, more than anything.

Two fiowers fused togather is not very rare.

I didn't believe it was very rare, nor did I say it was. I was just sharing because I thought it was cool, but since they're not very rare do you have any pics of one?

If you dig round in my blog I also have a pic of a two headed dandelion. You know what they say, two heads are better than one ;0)

These are deformed and not two headed.A two headed has twice the number of petals,stamens and stigma.
This years bloom will confim whether these were deformities or mutation.

Hi Arif,
Your pics show flowers trying to double. By definition,doubles are deformed-the filaments and stigma are flattened & twisted into the extra petals,rendering them useless for reproduction.Since this is against the best interests of the plant it is very difficult to breed doubles.

Here,Aphrodite is showing pollen on the edge of a polytepal.
I would personaly try selfing those flowers.The chances of setting a seed pod are not high but I would try anyway.I have not been able to produce an even somewhat good looking double. :( Lora

I think you misunderstood. I wasn't offended I was genuinely interested in any pics you may have. I think it's a case of seeing too many sci-fi movies as a kid, but deformed plants, flowers and sports fascinate me.

Oddly enough the bulb that hold the deformed flower is the only one I have tried to polinate that seems to have taken. I've done three attempts with healthy bulbs and no luck. But this bulb that is rotting and has a deformed flower seem to have given me my first two seed pods.

You are right. These were not a result of a cross with adouble.Those days I did not have any doubles. these are examples of natural mutation.
Having acquired some doubles I tried various crosses. Although polen was found on edges of many deformed petals. Stigma or some thing that looked like stigma (photo) was seen only on one flower. It was polinated by polen from another double but did not take.

Polen from doubles on singles produced healthy seeds/seedlings. The strongest are those of Alvas on Chrisma. Next week I will transplant them in out door beds.
Another two years of waiting.

I don't know enough to say with 100% certainty, but I would encourage you to do a google on viruses. To me, it looks like it. If that is the case, I know people are suppose to yank them out ASAP to avoid further contamination. For your sake, I hope that's not the case, but do look this up, quickly.

I did Google around and couldn't find many pics of diseases there was a lot of text but not much in the way of pics and pics help me more than text. But the 'bad' bulbs got tossed anyway.

Once again, a mention of WHITE LION. I am still looking to find a picture of this elusive variety. It seems like it is out there somewhere, and probably it is WHITE, but any difference from the other whites? Like claws, or hair, sharp teeth, or long tail?

Soultan...Veronica Read has an extensive list of both modern and older hybrids mentioned in her book. But nowhere can you see a "White Lion". Maybe it's just a name that they used to tell customers that it is white. I could even be a Ludwig's Dazzler.

I think it must be sort of like my White Dazzler, as the box indicated... I believe it's probably Ludwig's Dazzler, or clones, thereof... and it's most likely just grown and sold by a different grower...

I could be wrong, but I see Ludwig's Dazzler in several catalogs, but nowhere have I seen White Dazzler...

I am more than sure that Ludwig Dazzler's other name is White Dazzler. Sometimes it is also referred as simple Dazzler.

I thought so... I just wasn't sure... my White Dazzlers are getting tall scapes, and should bloom fairly soon!

It seems like Mont Blanc is overtaking Ludwig Dazzler's place lately. I don't really see Ludwig Dazzler anymore, but there are growing number of retailers offering Mont Blanc.

Almost two years later and I finally get a white flower from one of those kits. It's suppose to be Mont Blanc but I've never seen a good pic of Mont Blanc before nor have I ever seen one in person. But it does have that shimmer to the petals and the green center which looks more yellow in my pic.

MrB that is a stunning photo. Whether strong yellow as the photo depicts or more green as you say it is in person, the contrast of the throat is very distinctive. I also love the texture on the petals. Thanks for sharing!

I've tried with 2 purchased kits, but what should have been White Dazzler is Minerva... there's always next year, I suppose...
