Comments (2)As barnhardt said if you need a Panachée fig you just have to start with cuttings or a graft on an existing fig (wild could do it). But if you need seeds give me your address and I will send them .How many do you need ? lampo...See MoreI Live in Jacksonville Does Anyone know where to buy...
Comments (19)Taylor I just found a neat nursery that might be what you need. The nursery is in Lake Asbury. The woman who owns it is a master gardner and has plants that you don't find in the local nurseries. She told me that she gets some of her plants to use for cuttings from a man in south florida that travels the world looking for exotic plants. I bought a pagoda from her last week. Can't wait to see how it does. She runs adds on Craig's list. Her # is 449-2079 Also Cora I'm interested in meeting others from Jax. and learning what I can from everybody.Love this forum Terry...See MoreBest place to buy herb seeds?
Comments (7)I think the thing with Thymes is that there are not as many species as there are "cultivars". A lot of the variants in scent are plants that someone noticed smelled different from others of its kind. Some of them are random mutations, and some of them are accidental hybrids that turn out with interesting or unique scents. A lot of Thymes are selected for looks, not scent, and the variegation is usually a "sport". Cultivars sometimes come true and sometimes not, but usually nursery propagators just propagate them vegetatively. "French Tarragon" of couse is a sterile hybrid so it can't be grown from seed. I have seen seed for a few Thymes, such as French Thyme (a fine-leaved, mellow culinary thyme) and German Thyme aka "Deutsche Winter", which is a bigger-leaved, potent, unusually hardy variety. Wow, that Thyme Garden Herb Shop has a lot of varieties! The problem is that some of them don't really smell like what they are named after, and some are not culinary, either been too small to easily harvest or almost scentless. I know Orange-Balsam Thyme, German Winter, what I think is Lemon Thyme (it came as "Lime Thyme", which I think is just variegated Lemon Thyme, but it is not variegated), Lavender Thyme, and Oregano Thyme--does anyone know what others are good culinary Thymes? I seem to recall once hearing that "Caraway Thyme" smells REALLY good, but I've never actually "met" the plant....See Morebaci
