Is this normal? H. Giraffe

Ok so I bought a h. Giraffe on october 7th I think, and it still hasn't pushed up a flower scape yet and it's february 1st tommorrow, When I bought it the leafs were inside the bulb and haven't come out yet! What should I do? The amaryllis I told you that had mites are fine now cause I put them in the tub with the hot water at the max for atlease 20 minutes! Some Two bulbs have a scape coming up, One is about to bloom! Have you ever bought a bulb and it never flowered for you? I mean it's been three months atleast! Thanks for your help, Phil.

HI. If you look below, I created a thread where I complain about my bulbs forming buds (tips of the scapes) and then these got stuck and never emerged from the bulbs. The buds just sat there and never sent up a scape. Then the buds just withered away inside the bulb for no apparent reason. I several bulbs do this. No one could offer anything except that the bulbs may have been stressed. Still baffles me.

Hi, are you keeping the bulbs in an especially chilly room? I've noticed that colder environments slow or completely stall scapes. Some folks use a special heating pad for seedlings to provide bottom heat. I have an area in front of my glass door with heating vents running across it that gets very warm. I put my Melusine bulb on that warm and bright floor and sure enough, those scapes are coming up now.

Does anyone know the parentage of "Giraffe"?! I presumed H.papilio x H.evansiae elsewhere, but that is rather pure speculation. The green and burgundy red buds do look like buds of H.papilio; although, admittedly, very dainty papilio buds ;)

If you have "Giraffe" in bloom, and you have any other "DIP" Hippeastrums in flower at the same time, then my suggestion is to crosspollinate in either direction. "Giraffe" is not as likely to produce seeds, but "never say never". It is fair to presume that "Giraffe" is a Papilio hybrid with H.evansiae, (what I actually mean is to consider it FOR a papilio hybrid from an non-veined, green or white parent!) which comes to light if you breed with it. You will obtain a very broad range of colors! I am just now, delaying the bloom of my 3 "Giraffe" and waiting for "Striped Panther" to sprout. Hmmmm...

Hi georg_e_vergreen I mentioned the Neopardina x Papilio cross as someone more knowledgeable than I thought the cross looked a lot like 'Giraffe'. It definitely does look like 'Exotic Star'. My crosses of Iquazuanum x Papilio do not look anything like 'Giraffe'. Of course could depend on the line of each used.
