Your blooms are beautiful!! I had some doubles this year with what sort of looked like stigmas....but there really wasn't an "open" end (with the 3 lobes). I dabbed some pollen on anyway, just in case!!

Your Emerald bulbs look great! Did you cut that bulb in half or quarters?? Seems like the smaller the pieces, the smallers the cloned bulbs... the little guys I did last year are about the same size as year-old seedlings, so not too bad! The Chicos (I quartered the bulb) are much bigger. Yours look huge! We did that in June or July??

Great pictures!! That 3rd photo of Pasadena is really Gorgeous! Is that a different plant than the first 2photos(?)......my Pasadena looks just like your first 2 photos and the stigmas on mine also haven't opened but I also smothered them in their own pollen...we'll see. Sweet Lilian is so delicate a real subtle beauty! and your not Apple Blossom is very pretty with those white tips to the petals! Very nice!!

Jodi, great white-tipped petals on your "not Apple Blossom" - really unusual. And the others are lovely too, especially the Minerva. All your pictures are so sharp and clear.

Thanks! Yes, those are two separate Pasadenas. I fell in love with this variety last year, and I'm so fortunate to be seeing the blooms up close and in person this year! I simply love it!

I can't really tell whether or not the stigmas are actually functional, but dusting them with pollen won't hurt either way! I used Minerva pollen... so we'll see what happens.

My camera is fairly new... it's a Canon Powershot A480, and it takes the greatest shots! They're clear, color accurate, and barely need any fixing before uploading... usually just resizing. It's small enough fit in my purse, and the memory card holds oodles of pictures! Transferring them to the computer is as easy as plugging in a cord from the camera to the USB.

I quartered Emerald... I had to so I could get the rotten layers out. I can't recall off the top of my head when we cut up our bulbs, Kristi... all I know is that these are doing a lot better than I thought they would! The largest bulblet is bigger than a walnut, and they appear to be either resting right now, or growing an enormous root system! The bulb, itself, is nice and green and firm. There are two pots of them. Those pictured came out of the baggie first.

That Not Apple Blossom has the most interesting inner pattern... that's not camera glare or light glare... that's the actual interior color and pattern of the flower. It almost looks like a Red Nymph or Red Peacock, if they were singles.

Gorgeous blooms! My gervase is still going strong and it's fragrant. Faint but nice. Evergreen is on a second scape.

Jan, either you have a very sensitive nose, or you somehow get all the flowers with scent! How does that happen?! :-)

The only one I've ever really smelled a fragrance from was Jewel... and it smelled so good! I can't wait for it to bloom again!

I never really got a Hippeastrum with a scent, I poked my nose into every one of them and I thought I just imagined I sniffed a slight fragrance out. No idea if it was really there ;)

Jodic, your not-Apple Blossom is lovely and I especially like the Sweet Lilian too.

Carl, if you get a chance to obtain Jewel, the white semi-double, it absolutely is scented! It has a definite perfume, although I can't really describe the fragrance. Lily-like, perhaps... very floral, but not overpowering. I enjoyed it very much!

Unfortunately, Hippeastrum are not bred for scent. Flower size, shape and color seem more important. I wonder how Jewel came by its scent, and whether or not any of the species were ever scented? If they were, it's a shame that trait was lost through hybridizing.

I got a new monitor yesterday, and the colors look so much more intense and realistic! Up until now, I've had a dinosaur for a monitor... it was huge and heavy and so old! Larry found me a nice flat screen monitor on sale, and he installed it last night! The difference is incredible! Now I see what I've been missing!

Is your old monitor the one in the second picture? I had one like this too. My parents bought me a cheap flatscreen last year and it really is a relief. It's a wide-screen 21 inch sized, which works really well for everything till now. I'm often having friends over for a movie night.

Sorry, no double ones for me. I know that most of the fragrant ones are doubles, but I think there's also a natural variety that has a distinct scent, but I forgot which one it is ...

My 'Blossom Peacock' was very fragrant It hasn't bloomed yet this year because I had to separate about 4 bulbs, but last year it was so fragrant that you could smell it just by walking by! Honest! I will say that it may have been a soapy smell but a scent none the less!

This one bloomed the summer before last and I must say it really never looked that good again. The next blooms I got from it were pale and gangly. But they were fragrant!

Donna, I agree - I always described Blossom Peacock as smelling like baby powder. I think it great it has a scent! Mine bulb blooms a bit paler than yours, but it's an aggressive grower and one of my favorites.

Yes, Carl... my old monitor was so big and heavy, I couldn't lift it. It was a very good one for its time, but that is past. The new one is a 22" flat screen, very light, with excellent color!

The bulb I thought was labeled Blossom Peacock is not... it's Red Peacock.

Look at the size of that bulb or do you have tiny hands! Gorgeous pictures, Red Peacock is a real winner! If those are last year's pictures then I hope it does the same again for you this year!! My bulb came from WFF this year, and it was huge, but not as big as yours! The flowers look like velvet I keep sniffing, but no scent.

Wow, thats an exeptional bulb. Did you buy it as one of those "jumbo bulbs"? Royal colors has these.

My gardening partner actually bought it for me... I can't recall which company it came from, but it's one we all commonly know. She saw they had a sale going on, and she was ordering some other stuff... I think she said it was about $3 and change, all told. A great deal, considering the size of the bulb!

I do have small hands, but not THAT small! It is definitely a jumbo bulb! It felt like a rock in my hand... heavy and solid! And I had a tough time locating a pot to fit, from my available collection of empty pots.

The thing that confused me was, it was labeled as Red Peacock, but the color was actually closer to an orange red! I didn't quite capture it, but those blooms were loaded with sparkly diamond dust!

I, too, hope it performs well again! It's going outside this spring... along with many others. I hope the extra sun and outdoor environment help it to keep growing and performing like it first did! It was truly amazing!

I'll find out the company it came from... it was an end of season clearance purchase.

Well, it sounds like the Peacock series are all very good growers... strong and sturdy. And from Donna's picture, I can see I need to add Blossom Peacock to my collection!

Funny... when I first began collecting, I didn't care for the doubles... and now... I can't get enough of them! :-)
