Yeah, maybe spring is here, I have Sprouts!!!

Its been a fairly cool few days with rain, so was a little suprised, today was sunny, but only near 50, the last few nights were still cool.

But the following have sprouted,

Laurens Grape Poppy,

Lupine Tutti Frutti

Dianthus mix of some sort...

and Siberan Wallflower..

I know from past experince that the lupine is usually early. Happy to see the grape poppy, last year I had like 3-or 4 and this year a few dozen it appears so yeah!!!

I also got 4 year old yvonnes to sprout (but inside) This was one that hated me for wintersowing, so I gave up, Im exited to see it bloom later in the year.

Thanks for reading my rambling... its fun to think of spring, only 40 or so more trees to cut, stumps to be hauled out, admentments to be made, couple of raised beds to be created for my tomatoes... Moving is both fun and a pain for a gardner! I have alot more land , but its heavily wooded!

Yea You have babies..Hear ya on the woods...Congrat on your new home...that is so funny I spent the day today outside spring sowing all your daylily seeds in containers and here you are....:) Congrat on your laurens grape Poppy and salvia....Barb

Great for you there neighbour!! I found three more different kinds sprouted today so I'm up to 6 now. It's nice to see our area greening up.

Congratulations on the move. It will all be worth it once all the heavy work is done. Get some sunshine in there for your gardens. :O)

Isn't it great how excited one can get when we see plants grow? I transplanted a Clem a few weeks ago thinking it was dead and was stunned to find 8 new stems just about to pop through. I squealed and showed my hubby but he just couldnt share my excitement. :) Happy Spring!!!!

I'd agree, ot doesn't quite have that fern look to it. Do you have photos of the under side of the leaves? Also where the stems arise from the ground. New leaves in ferns unfurl, giving them the name "crozier", after a bishop's staff.

Yay! I also have the peony and bleeding heart coming up that I brought just the bare roots with me and put them in starter pots the same time I planted seeds of the the beans, wisteria, daylilies and hibiscus. I know it will be awhile on the hibiscus but I do have them under heat hoping to force them out. And I had no idea what would pop up around here since this is the first growing season we have lived here, but one whole length of the garage and about 3 feet wide is nothing but Iris! I have no idea what color they are but I am eagerly waiting. I have random narcissus and naked ladies popping up in odd places. Every day I wake up and take a walk around the property just to see what is new. LOL

LeapingFrogLady...can I please please please get one of those hibiscus plants? I have toying with the idea of tomatoes, I would love to get one of those toos. As for vegetables from me; I have some Purple Tomatillio seedlings that came up last week. still small but should be transplant size soon. Nasturtiums can be used an herb (real spicy). I tend to throw them in my salads to liven it up. I have plenty of those. Columbine seeds just germinated this week as well. I have a list of more stuff locate up top. silverkelt - tell me about woods... I now have all of my borders done, but 12 years ago it was all trees. Little by little my husband cut the trees and that's when I started to get into gardening full force.

At the time we didn't have a rototiller, so by hand I chopped out the borders around the tree stumps and started planting little by little.

Now, years after I have my beds done (meaning they are plantable, they are never "done") my husband buys a rototiller... :0/ too late now.. ha ha

Congrats on your sprouts and the new yard! Spring is definitely here and it's such an exciting time of year. Might not look like much is happening to the average Joe or Jane, but we gardeners notice the hundreds of little signs of Spring bustin' out all over.

I've had to remove trees from this yard too (major tree work twice, big trees, big $$). Just to carve out some partial sun for gardens (and get rid of those horrible Norway maples). I still don't have blazing full sun anywhere, and find it hard to grow many veggies because of that.

Our builder owns about 300 acres and likes the woody look on the lots, we actually signed an agreement not to cut within 75 feet of a house, but since, there is a river and a bog on that side of my lot, there really isnt any room over there to garden. I have been cutting the trees down , I thought about having them stumped as well.. but looked at prices last night, it might be over 3 grand, now im thinking about a stump grinder , but will see. I might ask the builder if he could come by and do it for free =) that sounds even better for me.

I have a ton of oaks and northern firs, a few beech and white birch, probable have close to 4000 trees on this lot, Im cutting the trees down on my northern side, where my sun is best to make borders, then thinking about clearing right in front of the house all the way to our road, which is private, so I dont think it would matter.

Rosepedal, I planted the brug crosses the other day, I started a cross last year, but it never bloomed, its actually sitting under the window at my office right now!

That's encouraging. As of yesterday AM, I still have none. What I have is the Zone-5-no-sprouts-blues! I have things started in my GH, but not in the jugs. Probably won't be today with the frost we had last night, either. Maybe next week...

Every once in a while when I am digging in one of my borders, I pull up a rotted branch from a tree my husband cut 10-12 years ago.. The stumps are finally gone ( I used to plant ice plants, creeping jenny, etc. on the stumps until they rotted).

We got smart two years ago and when we cleared another big area, we hired a stump grinder and he was the cheapest guy in town - grinded out the stumps for a little over $20.00 each - He was just too happy to have the work and didn't charge very much - we lucked out!

bog could be a nice place to garden. I envy you- must be some space you are having. Would be gorgeous for hosta gardens.

I started my Yvonne's inside the year too; I give up too LOL!
I actually got 2 to germinate last year but they pooped out on me and never grew past a few inches; no bloom either.
