I've transplanted some at seed-leaf stage, but usually wait until I have at least 1 set of true-leaves....it just depends on how small they are in the seed-leaf stage.

Yeah...most of mine are really tiny. I was a little depressed this evening when I took my "after work turn around the garden". They look so teensy. HOW are they going to live...much less thrive and grow and bloom?? I can't quite imagine it.

But I'm goin' on hope here. This whole wintersowing thing...it's all about hope. I hope I can have lots of flowery things in my garden without breaking the bank. I hope I can have flowers that are stronger than most because - heaven knows - they had better be. This soil and this climate are totally unforgiving.

They sure do look little, though. (gulp)

You won't even believe how quickly they speed up!! It's like seedlings today and blooms tomorrow :D

Mine are very small and in the garden they look even smaller. I marked where I put them for fear I will cover them up or trample them.

With the cool weather (dare I say cold) they are not growing much. Once the temps warm up I suspect they will grow.

My zinnias ae really small but I will put them out this weekend.
They are getting a bit yellow on the leaves in the container i have them in.

Mine are very small too. Most have true leaves but some do not. I need to take some photo's.

I started planting on Saturday and did a few more last night. I had to be very careful what I was doing because it was too easy to step on or brush with my hand the things I planted on Saturday. I've only been marking the perennials due to lack of plant markers. We have spring cleaning garbage pickup next week and I'm hoping someone will throw out some blinds.

The first couple I did I was very nervous. It seemed like they fell apart in my hands easily. But after 4 hours of planting on Saturday I was feeling much more comfortable last night. Now if I can just keep the dog and cats away from them.

My Zinnia are getting a little yellow, but I'm thinking it's the cool weather. The the coldest lows have been 27-31..but usually 34-36'ish, days in the low-mid 50 for the last 1.5 weeks, but warming up within the next 10 days again with lows in the 40's. I still think I'll wait a few more weeks before tempting to plant out the Zinnia as I'm sure we will still see a few frosts before our last frost date (May 12-15).
My Sunflower on the otherhand are screaming to get out...I think I'll go ahead and plant them out tomorrow before their roots bust through! It may happen today If I can get to it before the winds come....argh!

I've been putting them out very small, too, but as I've posted before, I've had to make little custom covers for them to keep the birds, bunnies and big-footed dogs out. And big-footed me, too. I uncovered a few things I thought were big enough yesterday, and they were gone this morning. It had to be birds or bunnies, because the dogs can't get there, and I hadn't been there. Darn !

Here's my little bed in the back yard. It has sweet peas, godetia, five spot, foxglove, poppies, pixie lupin, and pyrethrum. The first picture was taken March 10 when it was planted out. The second was March 20. I covered the bed with a sheet during the recent April freezes. The third was taken April 10.

I think I may have crammed more in the bed than I realized at the time and may have to do some moving and thinning. I've never planted out such small plants before and I'm going to have to learn to judge final sizes a bit better, lol.

wow thats impressive for a month. I hope I get those results. My indoor sowed plants I did last year were that big at the end of the season!

Whoops, not godetia - clarkia.

I covered my transplanted babies tonight with a big piece of clear plastic. I can't seem to get the night-time temps pinned down as to whether they will be above 30 or not, so I figured I'd give them this boost, just in case.

At least I have a few less containers to think about (and a few containers freed up to sow other things!)

Thanks Vera! The blue glass UFO in the top of the picture fits on top as a bird bath. I'm trying to train the sweet peas to grow up the base, but I think I'll have to use a bit of twine to make a smaller grid for them to grow on.

I got both the Godetia Fruit Punch and Clarkia Confetti mix from Valueseeds which didn't have the latin names, so I had no idea they could be confused. That's my new fact learned for today. :)

O.K. Just my advice don't give up on those lil' bitty seedling's!! I know my weather is a bit warmer than your's..But you'll definitly get there!! I work so much I tend to pass by my WS little sprout's well at least I check em' every day when I can... way to soon then they get to be biggie sprouts! I actually had an amaranthus, and a nicotania attempt to bloom in my zippie baggie's before I could get them out of said baggies, and I sowed those seeds in mid-feb so don't worry.. They'll take off before ya know it!!! Just my 2 cent's worth..
