Who has Lilac Wonder??

If anyone could post a photo of what THEIR Lilac Wonder looks like...I'd appreciate it. I think I have another spectacular MUTT!

But all hybrids are by definition MUTTS aren't they....sounds like you have a hybrid :o) Dan

Let me rephrase my message: I have looked on line and found various photos of Lilac Wonder...some look like what I recall the blooms SHOULD look iike and others look like Apple Blossom. So please, if you have a photo of your Lilac Wonder, please post.

FUNNY...I haven't described or given any hint as to what mine looks like. Let's just say it's unique!

...and Yes Dan...all Hybrids are mixes of known parents ...unless they just happen! I'm being vague on purpose.

rlembke, Yep lawn is killed. Tooks two weeks,I just have a couple of clover sprouts shooting up here and there. I've read that it is actually good to let any weed seeds, left in the soil germinate before areating or slitseeding becuase it will kill em..I agree that a dying lawn gives off a rather interesting odor. I'm thinking the longer u leave it laying there the more beneficial microbes you get and you get some free aeration. Anyway I was supposed to start my raking of the grass last weekend but I stood up in my brother in laws wedding and the whole weekend was booked. Today we are getting about a foot of rain here in Michigan so I'm thinking tomorrow I will cut it short and start raking. I would like to rent a power rake but money's tight and I still need to rent Areator and get a yard of compost :( So I'm thinking my planting will take place this coming weekend. Can't wait! I too have pictures of before and after that I plan on posting one day. Good Luck! BTW..If anyone calls Williams Lawn Seed ask for Dennis!

Perhaps Lilac Hill Nursery in Victor, NY is the one you are looking for. It is located near Rochester's famous lilac display at Highland Park which draws thousands of visitor every spring during the bloom period. Thanks so much for the help! I'm wondering if the problem could be aphids but, would aphids just go away by themselves. They aren't on any of the leaves currently. Anytime I've ever seen aphid infestation it's not something that goes away by itself. The awesome guy that does the lawn does use fertilizer and weed control but I don't think it could get up on the leaves and no other plants near the lawn have this problem. I'm glad to hear it doesn't look like major damage. The lilac is been there probably about 4 or 5 years old. I bought it as a small $25 bush at Lowe's .... Two years ago it almost died. I thought it was just powdery mildew but it could've been a combination aphids also. It's on the east side of the house where it gets full sun until about noon. Thanks again for everyone's help!!

You can see what MY Lilac wonder turned out to be by looking at my picture of "Amigo", what we think it truly is. LAst year They sent one that was pink with a white half star in the middle, a very crepy texture and it did not hold up at all well when blooming. ALso the white star was more 3 rays with a couple of messy overlapping ones so it did not make a pretty star. I gave the bulbs away. YOU might find a picture by searching for "Not LIlac Wonder" last year.

Hi Kristi, I know what you meant....it was just my smart-^&& side coming out......sorry about that!!! I bought one hybrid 3 years ago and it turned out to be something different....I've never purchased another....too many sellers out there just selling rather than growers who are selling....the latter category I have more faith in :o) Dan

I've been very lucky... of all the hybrids I've bought, I think I only have a few that were mislabels... the majority were as labeled. I'm ok with it because I've found the proper names. I'd be upset if they turned out to be just no name mutts of questionable parentage.

I agree, Dan... it's like there's no pride in the product being sold anymore... some just want to make that money, and they don't care what's being sold to make it.

I've been this route with dog breeding for years... my pet peeve (no pun intended) are puppy mills and those who breed for the money, not for the good of the breed. They don't know the first thing about genetics or what constitutes a good specimen of the breed in question... they're only interested in the money to be made!

Anyway... I thought Lilac Wonder had a purplish cast to it... somewhere between pink and purplish red.
