Just wanted to share my nice Easter surprise!

I have 10 "Aconitum carmichaelii" seedlings! They are from Thompson and Morgan seed pack that I bought at a local nursery. I had them in the fridge in a jiffy mix/container sealed in a ziplock bag for 9 weeks. I moved them to a spot that is about 70F and in 4 days they sprouted! I also winter sowed some (no sprouts yet). I just hope I can keep them alive inside until it warms up out here and that maybe the winter sown ones will sprout too! Melissa

I too have the T&M aconitum carmichaelii - it is one that I am *really* hoping makes it! I wintersowed mine, I only see two little roots starting - I should have started some indoors too - ah bugga!

Nancy, Thanks for the info on the mulch. I'll have to give it a try when I get all mine moved. As I said, I've only got a few Earlys blooming so far: With Castinets I think this is Stellar Lights Possibly........Apollodorus Dunno :) My purdy no-name peach that I have lots of!!! Tom, what a beautiful cat! I love the markings and thank you) Blutayle..You are way too funny! Seems I have known you for years here and we have both been a bad influence for each other..lol. You know you are in an area where there is countless of orchids you could catch..Ha. Thanks Now you do know that I just have to have that one above..lol. If I find it and it's the only one left on let's say ;like E-bay, I am going to get it before you do.. That is a beauty!!Wait you son of a gun, you already go one..Where did you get it? The Alba? @cat_ky - Thanks!! Since they are moving back here in a couple weeks, they decided to wait and tell people (immediate family only for now) in person. I am the only person that they’ve told so far - and I’m sworn to secrecy! She told me that I don’t have the usual “spousal exception” - so, I can’t even share this with my SO. He came over while I was just getting off the speaker phone with my daughter, and heard her comment about how we had been on the phone for 2 hrs and 50 minutes! While she and I have had long calls before - the calls have never been close to THREE HOURS! After I hung up, he made a comment about how long the call was, and asked if something was wrong. “Ummm . . . NOPE!” It’s going to be a LONG couple of weeks! It’s difficult to have such exciting news, and not be able to share it - especially with my three sisters! That’s why I decided to share it with you all! In a few months, we can all brainstorm about putting together the perfect nursery!!

Hooray!! That's great success.

I'd love to try growing some aconitum. I thought I had great sprouts last year, but it turns out someone on GW thinks that South African Foxglove is Aconitum :)

Looked these up on the internet and they are wonderful!! Such a lovely flower and I love, love, love the blue color! Hope you get lots of gorgeous blooms!

I winter sowed some this year too, but I doubt they'll sprout, last years seeds and they have a short life. But, maybe I'll get lucky, you never know.

They are a most beautiful and versatile plant. Here's mine in mid-October between the Joe Pye and the veranda.

The bees love them and go right into the helmet shaped flowers. I grow this bunch in morning sun then shade the rest of the day, but my neighbour has a bunch in full sun. I've transplanted some divisions to a back garden to have more around the property and also have introduced some blue June flowering varieties and others which flower in July in yellow (Lamarkii).

I just want to tell you to be careful with this plant. The sap is poisonous and all part of the plant are toxic if ingested even in small quantities. I do handle the plant in general with my bare hands when simply cleaning around it but when dividing or if I have a cut on my hands I make sure to wear gloves. Just a heads-up to be aware.

GORGEOUS pics! Thanks for sharing, and double-thanks on the warning about the toxicity of these. I probably will not plant these, since my kitties come out in the spring and eat whatever's green... Found one of them munching on my Sweet Williams this morning (eating off the FLOWER BUDS, thankyouverymuch!!), and the other one was munching on some of those pesky garlic chives, so I guess nothing's sacred to them, and I'd hate for them to get sick.

Beautiful though, and congrats isamae!
