Hi Heather, What Glib said is true, but what the heck, you might as well keep going and see how it turns out, besides ...I grow hundreds of pounds of garlic per year and I am always coming across garlic that was missed from last year, and I just pull them up and transplant them, they never give me any trouble, and they are no different from the ones that were done correctly...you'll be fine, no harm-no foul ;-) Check out my video (link is below), on transplanting garlic's, here is a pic of one of the transplants that I divided.. Chris. Do you want to plant ASAP after the Garlic is pulled? If so most Brassicas like Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage do well transplanted in late July or early August, and as Redsun said bush beans would also work well. July would be a little early for spinach, lettuce, or radishes but just wait until late in August before planting those and be ready to provide shade if it is still much over 80. Jim -in my Zone 6a I usually harvest garlic between June 10 -20 most years depending on type. Shallots are closer to July 4th for me.

I plant mine around 3" deep, and here, it is more like July/August when they are ready to harvest. They may sprout early, given that it is so warm here so far this fall, but don't panic, they'll be OK.

I just planted a bed of garlic over the past couple days, here in metro-west Boston. This is probably zone 6a now and I've tried to change it in the Houzz profile but it won't stick. The garlic probably could have gone in earlier, but I had to get over to Mahoney's to buy actual seed garlic (in the past I've just planted stuff from the store). I bought both hardneck and softneck. Once the bed gets a good rain over the next few days I'm going to put down some wattle type hay for mulch (after removing the netting).
